House Democrats are working to prohibit members of Congress from carrying firearms in the U.S. capitol.

This move was likely sparked by incoming U.S. congresswoman Lauren Boebert conversing with Capitol police about carrying a gun on the Capitol premises for the purpose of self defense.

According to an Associated Pressreport, there are “a number of lawmakers who carry firearms,” A 1967 law is what enables them to carry inside the Capitol.
On December 8, 2020, Boebert caused a stir on Twitter when she posted, “I’ve always heard to ‘Speak softly and carry a big stick.’ I prefer to speak loudly and carry a Glock.”

The democrat impulse to grab guns is showing itself again. They seem to be upset by some of the GOP female newcomers who want to carry. The current law has been there for 53 years. We should protect the right to carry here.

Why is it that democrats are resisting the idea of female members of congress holding the great equalizer for their personal protection?

Why would anyone need to carry a firearm in the capitol is a mystery to me. There is a significant police presence already on federal property, so there shouldn't be any security concerns.

Not for us to decide for them. Every jurisdiction has law enforcement. Our personal right to bear arms isn’t limited because some think we have enough security without using that part of the Bill of rights. The fact that there are Americans who think that they can limit that right is reason enough to double down on it and carry everywhere.

Gee, how could anything wrong as Right Winge to be putting out serious threats to election officials, Governors, Congresspeople, etc. to kidnap, assassinate and threaten pvrr things as simple as voting results and wearing mask or PPE protection!

And Personal Protection Equipment does not include protection like bump stocks and 60 round magazines in Congress.

Too many Capitol personnel have skme chance of being the perps!

I think the government has a right to say who and who cannot carry on government property. If people don't like it, they don't have to come onto the property.

I'm afraid of two things in life and two things only. One is stupid people and the other is stupid people in groups, both large and small

The vast majority if not all liberals/progressives/socialists that infest the U.S. capitol fit in one or both of those categories.

That's more than enough reason to carry a firearm pretty much wherever you go, not just the Capitol.

Those rules already exist for the general public. The new efforts being talked about affect those that actually work there.

Sounds like a forced issue to me. Something to get some headlines and drum up support for the runoff elections.

If members of congress want to carry, they should be allowed to. I know there is armed security there, but so do terrorists, and the Capitol is a symbol of our government and therefore a potential target. "There are a number of lawmakers who carry firearms". I believe it. Leave 'em alone. Better to have it and never need it than need it and not have it.

It has already made such rules for both members of the general public and for members of congress. The issue of the thread is the Dems trying to change existing rules applied to members of congress. What are we going to do , have different rules for them at different times based on which party controls each body? Current law allows all members to carry and store them.

I dont understand the lefts absolute fear of guns.

Could you imagine if they had the same fear about knives, how ridiculous it would look?

Every school cafeteria has murderous knives!? We need to fix that!

Unfortunately, they have been for with nonsense propaganda.

    An Utterly Ridiculous Idea.

Why would anybody need to carry a gun in the Capitol?

No wonder it is Boebert pushing this Imbecilic Idea.

Boebert is a Certifiable Looney Toon:

Boebert had expressed support of QAnon, a far-right conspiracy theory

They should prohibit carrying firearms from N.Y. to Californa and from Alaska to Florida.

The 2nd amendment of the constitution prevents you from doing that to us.

Yes, I understand that but an amendment - is an amendment - is an amendment.

"An amendment is a formal or official change made to a law, contract, constitution, or another legal document. It is based on the verb to amend, which means to change for better." (presumably) "Amendments can add, remove, or update parts of these agreements. They are often used when it is better to change the document than to write a new one".

It is perfectly legal and guaranteed by the constitution to amend .... and maybe it is time to do it.

Preferably it would be legal for citizens to excerzice their constitutional right to bear arms in the nations capital. But if We The People can't, neither should our representatives. Nor their bodyguards. Anything else is elitism and inequitable. They are not supposed to be a seperate class from us.

Good.... hope they are able to get this done, along with refusing to seat the seditionists who supported the failed Texas Sedition attempt...

There is ZERO reason to have a firearm (by non security personnel) in our Capitol building...

Please remind the forum who passed said law. Bear in mind it was done in 1967.

Who controlled Congress at that time? Who was the prez?
