Democrats thirsting for a repudiation of Trump and the Republicans at the polls are watching in dismay as their dreams start to evaporate. A serious mistake in the propaganda efforts on behalf of Democrat Ralph Northam threatens to depress turnout among his most important base voters.

The Old Dominion is currently regarded as a purple state, capable of going either way in handing victory to a Democrat or a Republican. But the trend has been for rapid population growth in the northern suburbs of D.C., where prosperity depends on a growing federal government, free to act as its bureaucrats see fit.

Enthusiasm for the Democrats' nominee is waning, while GOP voters are motivated by threats to the Second Amendment being pushed by Northam. The most recent poll from Monmouth University hands a statistically insignificant one-percent lead to Ed Gillespie, the GOP candidate:

The campaign for governor of Virginia remains up for grabs, with Republican Ed Gillespie and Democrat Ralph Northam locked in a one point race.

Currently, 48% of likely voters support Gillespie, the former national GOP party leader, and 47% support Northam, the Commonwealth's current lieutenant governor. Libertarian Cliff Hyra gets 3% of the vote and 3% are undecided. Last month, Northam had a 49% to 44% edge over Gillespie .

Into this seesaw situation comes an unbelievable gross error. Shaun Kenney of The Republican Standard (hat tip: Ace) noticed that the Northam campaign removed the picture of his black running mate on campaign literature.

Democrat's "Erase The Black Man" Campaign:

In swing districts, when black turnout is high, Democrats win. When black turnout is low, they lose.

This is a pretty big deal now that it's been publicized, given how important black turnout is for Northam https://t.co/gB3w35lRmE

The campaign ads write themselves for Gillespie.

It's time for Blacks to leave the Party that enslaved them, and rejoin the Party that freed them!

You said that the democrats were losing the race and cited one poll to that effect when there are 5 polls that say otherwise. You're dishonest. I would buy a MAGA hat and burn it just to piss you off but those things are like $30. You're not worth that. I'm satisfied knowing that you're fuming now that I've exposed your thread as a lie. 5 out of 6 polls show the dems are winning VA.

    Uhh...

The blew the final results for 4 out of 8 tossup states, you could match that by flipping a coin.

Gillespie scored a one-point edge in a mid-month Monmouth poll, but now shows a commanding eight-point lead in a Hampton University survey:

Republican candidate Ed Gillespie, who is running for Virginia governor, is ahead of his Democratic challenger, Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam, according to poll results released Wednesday.

Gillespie is ahead of Northam by 8 percent, the Hampton University Center for Public Policy found in a poll released Wednesday. Forty-one percent of voters said they would vote for Gillespie and 33 percent said they would vote for Northam. Meanwhile, 27 percent of respondents said they were undecided.

Additionally, the poll indicated that 34 percent of voters view the economy and job creation as the biggest issue for the governor. Twenty-three percent of voters said healthcare is the biggest issue and 10 percent said education.

    It's the Economy, Stupid!

Gillespie has some experience in Virginia in both campaigning and polling. In 2014, he stunned everyone by nearly unseating the popular incumbent Sen. Mark Warner, only missing a win by an eyelash when everyone claimed he was down by double digits. One poll at the time had Gillespie had him as far back as 25 points. Gillespie knows how to do retail campaigning better than most imagined at the time, and better than some realize to this day.

How did Gillespie almost steal Virginia’s senate seat from Warner? The key was outreach in communities outside the Republican Party’s normal comfort zone.

Gillespie also focused on themes and issues that resonated across community lines, emphasizing “upward mobility and job creation, economic growth, lifting people out of poverty, and higher wages,” as well as “education, a reform-and-replace plan for ObamaCare, energy production, and more affordable energy.” More important than the message itself was where and how Gillespie communicated it.

Gillespie went into the black churches in Prince William, and to places a lot of Republicans have not gone. County Republican Party vice chair D. J. Jordan, a leading African American conservative in Prince William, corroborates this. “Grace Church Dumfries is a church that Ed Gillespie visited in October 2014,” Jordan recalls, “and he was very well received. They welcomed him from the pulpit and he was able to talk to those who were out in the lobby afterwards.”

Gillespie may pull off yet another big surprise. He understands how to get voters out to the polls, and he also knows how to push back against a strong headwind. Northam is nowhere near as well liked as Warner, and he’s had his own stumbles during the campaign. Watch the northern Virginia counties on election day. If Northam isn’t blowing Gillespie out in Prince William, Loudoun, and especially Fairfax counties, Gillespie may well pull off the upset.

Donald Trump tweeted out his support for Gillespie by noting in part that the Republican would “save our great statues/heritage!” That is a rather popular position in Virginia. There is other bad news for Northam as well:

In Hampton poll: 56% of VA voters oppose sanctuary cities; 62% oppose removing Confederate statues. http://www.hamptonu.edu/cpp/polls/20171024_va_governor_poll/ …

    ✔@AndrewHClark

But most alarming number for Northam here should be that 49% of #VAGov voters "lean Republican." Just 37% "lean Democrat."

    Should be interesting!

Charlottesville Paper Slams VA Democrats, Exploiting Our Pain For 'Political Advantage Is Stomach-Turning'.....

As the Virginia gubernatorial race enters its final days, the Democrats appear to be getting nervous. There may be something in their internal polling showing that Republican candidate Ed Gillespie could win because they’re pushing this absurd and borderline libelous mailer linking him to white nationalism.

This is not a piece you would send out if you were cruising to victory.

Virginia’s newspapers have voiced their opinions on the matter, noting that Gillespie issued a strongly worded response to this protest, and that he’s done everything right when confronted by this horrific event. The Richmond Times-Dispatch, which later endorsed Gillespie, slammed Virginia Democrats, calling the mailer “practically libel.” Now, The Daily Progress, a Charlottesville-based paper, is ripping Virginia Democrats for using their pain to score political points. They described the tactics of Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam, the Democratic candidate, and his campaign as “stomach-turning” (via Daily Progress) [emphasis mine]:

…the Northam campaign wants to do everything it can to tie Mr. Gillespie to the unpopular president. And that’s because the race is so close; the Democrats want to grab every advantage they can scramble for, even if it means political exploitation of the Charlottesville tragedy.

    […]

For his opponent to challenge him on the degree to which he endorses the Trump agenda is fair game.

But to take the tragedy of Charlottesville and exploit it for political advantage is stomach-turning.....snip~

Yeesssssss.....its what they do. Democrats always politicize some tragedy. Now with these Virginia Newspapers sounding off about the Demos. Gillespie will win.

Their desperation.....and trying to tie Trump to hate. Just killed any chance they had.

The Virginia Governor’s Race Has Exposed A Big Immigration Problem For Democrats: By making immigration an issue, Republican Ed Gillespie is challenging Democrat Ralph Northam to answer for his party: Do Democrats believe in borders?

Lately, Gillespie has eased off talking about MS-13 and focused more on the economy, but by bringing illegal immigration into the race he’s managed to capitalize on what Trump exposed last year: Democrats, even centrist ones like Northam, don’t really believe in immigration enforcement anymore. To the extent that’s a message even a decidedly non-Trumpian Republican like Gillespie can leverage, it’s not just an immediate problem for Northam but a national problem for the Democratic Party.

Democrats might denounce it as racist, but the importance of the immigration question can’t be emphasized enough. Last week, Andrew Sullivan wrote, “The most powerful thing Trump said in the campaign, I’d argue, was: ‘If you don’t have borders, you don’t have a country.’ And the Democrats had no answer, something that millions of Americans immediately saw. They still formally favor enforcement of immigration laws, but rhetorically, they keep signaling the opposite.”

That immigration would feature so prominently in a race between two relative centrists underscores the extent to which America’s two major political parties are cracking up. This week’s announcement by Sen. Jeff Flake that he won’t seek reelection confirmed that the GOP is increasingly the party of Trump, with all that implies about immigration. On the Democratic side, Northam’s candidacy seems thoroughly out of step with the Sanders wing of his party. Sanders made headlines recently with his unrealistic “Medicare for all” bill, which a growing number of Democratic senators have felt obliged to endorse because it’s really a litmus test of their progressive bona fides. Like health care and abortion, immigration is one of the issues increasingly defining the parties.

It also helps explain why a race that shouldn’t be close is tightening.

Gillespie’s ads are poisonous to Virginia and the nation.....

That didn’t stop Ed Gillespie, the Republican candidate for governor in Virginia, from using Mr. Bowen’s circumstances as fodder for an incendiary and misleading TV attack ad designed to frighten Virginians. The ad targeting his Democratic opponent in next month’s election, Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam, is in keeping with the recent thrust of Mr. Gillespie’s campaign, which, taking a page from the Trump playbook, has been more about scaring and dividing Virginians than inspiring and uniting them.....snip~

AHHAHAHAHAHA.....now here the lameness of WAPO is exposed. People need to jump on them for their open advocacy of the leftness.

After WAPO learns about Virginia Newspapers slamming Demos. WAPO puts out an OP Ed as an acting hit piece on Gillespie.

This is how the leftness plays. As they watch Gillespie pass up their favored Lil Demo.

Someone needs to point out to WAPO.....its to late. The Real Newspapers already had put out the word. Their Demo is going to come up empty.

Gillespie, after winning should make it known just how WAPO tried to advocate for the Demo too.

People need to keep getting out there and destroying their credibility. As they barely have any.

Th Dems just lowered the bar in this race. They're running the most disgusting ad ever shown on American television. It shows a pickup with a Confederate flag and a Gillespie bumper sticker trying to run over minority children.

The Democratic Party is horribly amoral and desperate. There is nothing it won't do to win an election. If a human sacrifice would guarantee them the presidency in 2020, it would happen.
