In this case-New Yorkers fleeing the state have been putting people in other states at risk.

The Governor of Rhode Island has placed military checkpoints along the border.

I understand (and rather enjoy) the schadenfreude involved here, with New Yorkers being treated like modern-day lepers, but I'm curious about the constitutionality of stopping all vehicles with New York license plates, not because there's any reasonable, articulable suspicion of a crime, and ordering them to self-quarantine, or collecting passengers' contact information without a warrant of some sort. Destruction of civil liberties, right up there with the economic harm being done, are my top concerns about "the coronavirus crisis" (which I see primarily as a government-mandated recession and rollback of rights).

 

I have equal concerns but the feds are making recommendations to the states and it is up to the states to implement what they deem best for their citizens. I don't think there is a constitution issue here. I could be wrong.

What RI is doing is exactly what the dems are arguing for on a national level: verify immigrants through points of entry, allow those that qualify in.
