Reconciliation bills can be passed on spending, revenues, and the federal debt limit[4] once a year per topic unless Congress passes a revised budget resolution for that fiscal year (under section 304 of the Congressional Budget Act).[5] As an example, if a budget resolution's reconciliation instructions affect both spending and revenues, no further reconciliation legislation can occur on these topics in the same fiscal year without a revised budget resolution.[5]
Why do you make crap up and then pretend I'm 'agreeing' with what you made up? Seems like a cry for help!
Try again: Reconciliation bills can be passed on spending, revenues, and the federal debt limit once a year per topic unless Congress passes a revised budget resolution for that fiscal year (under section 304 of the Congressional Budget Act). As an example, if a budget resolution's reconciliation instructions affect both spending and revenues, no further reconciliation legislation can occur on these topics in the same fiscal year without a revised budget resolution.
Its already clear if one simply follows the time line and trump's scatterbrained erratic leadership. OTOH, I agree that congress, if mcconnell had any guts would have passed the deal and dumped it back to the house. That would have really made it clear, but he's way too smart to throw that grenade into his own party's caucus. Besides he has lots of experience in shutting down the government. He's on round two and still doesn't accept any responsibility.
Proof's in the pudding, Trump's doing a fabulous job. Dems shutting down the government to try to stop him won't work. He will continue to excel, lifting our living standards as he does. Schumer's risky gambit The Senate minority leader has decided that it's time for a government shutdown. We'll see how that works out for him.
I am not in the mood for this, rahl. I will let you educate me. I will let you tell me where the misunderstanding lay. A vote proceeding this failure to succeed at passage, required a 60 vote majority under current Senate rules according to every single report, and according to every single Senator who was interviewed both before and after those votes were tabulated and why the number of votes missing is consistently quoted as '10 votes short'. Somehow the presiding officer of that body, in concert with the Senate parliamentarian, failed to be convinced that the requisite number of yeahs existed on a vote that otherwise was likely to catapult this bill inexorably into passage. You can tell me which vote that was.
The silence answers the question. Trump jokes shutdown is a ‘present’ from Democrats “Democrats are far more concerned with Illegal Immigrants than they are with our great Military or Safety at our dangerous Southern Border. They could have easily made a deal but decided to play Shutdown politics instead. #WeNeedMoreRepublicansIn18 in order to power through mess!” He followed up with a joke on the first anniversary of his inauguration. “This is the One Year Anniversary of my Presidency and the Democrats wanted to give me a nice present. #DemocratShutdown,” “For those asking, the Republicans only have 51 votes in the Senate, and they need 60. That is why we need to win more Republicans in 2018 Election! We can then be even tougher on Crime (and Border), and even better to our Military & Veterans!” ~AMERICA FIRST! “We have soldiers that are headed down range to Kuwait for six months in a critical theater to serve the country, and yet because of Democrats in the Senate, they have anxiety about their pay.” ~VPOTUS
Non sequitur. Trump and the Republicans have been saying they'll deport the Dreamers if Democrats won't vote to fund the wall. Trumpites are overplaying their hand with displays of glee over the shutdown. Their attitude about the shutdown is a "tell"--they don't care about what happens to the Dreamers, what happens to folks' healthcare, or that young people going into debt to pay for their education. Sooner or later, Republicans are going to be out of runway as old people die off...
Nope…… Even with the new Democrat Senator voting with the Republicans Schumer still got his shutdown. The total on the vote was 50-49, but 60 votes were needed to advance the bill. http://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/2018/01/sen_doug_jones_will_vote_for_r.html#incart_river_home
There is no misunderstanding. Republicans had the option of budget reconciliation, which only requires 51 votes. They chose not to, which is their own fault. This shut down is 100% on the GOP.
"The total on the vote was 50-49, but 60 votes were needed to advance the bill. Five Republicans voted against the bill;" 50 + 5 equals 55, how do get 59?
The democrats couldn't shut it down. The republicans could have used budget reconciliation and that only requires 51 votes. Democrats could do nothing to stop this bill GOP owns the shut down 100%
