“Let me just say we’ve cleared with the office of legal counsel all these actions before they went to the president,” Mnuchin said. “The president knew unemployment insurance was ending. He said, ‘let’s continue with $400.’ By the way, the 25% from the states, they can either take that out of the money we’ve already given them for the president can waive that. We’ve been told by the states they can get this up and running immediately.”

The Treasury secretary then seemed to dare Democrats to challenge the administration in court, suggesting that such a move would invite a PR disaster.

“And I would say if the Democrats want to challenge us in court and hold up unemployment benefits to those hard-working Americans that are out of a job because of COVID, they’re going to have a lot of explaining to do,” he said. The democrats are going to be in a tough spot explaining to hungry unemployed why they are ripping money out of their hand if they go to court. The same for rent and student loan relief. It’s sad that democrats would hold the Americans most in need of relief in order to get bailouts for mismanaged blue states and badly run blue cities and to top it off, a tax cut for the rich in blue states.

And democrats want money for Mass mail in ballots and along with it a nationwide ban on voter ID nationwide and a ban on signature verified mail in balloting.

The short answer is that they will look like they are defending the Constitution that trump is ******** all over.

I guess you’re ok with this?

So if the next Dem president signs an EO handing out free health care to anyone earning less than a certain amount per year, your biggest concern will be how the Republicans will look if they try to stop it?

actually they will look like they are holding up aid to the voters.

Well as I have said previously I am not a fan of executive orders. We have a congress for a reason. They write the laws. Not the president. However congress is at the moment hopelessly broken. Trump has won this and Pelosi and Schumer have no one to blame but themselves.

Just to be clear - you are OK with a president ignoring the Constitution (that he swore to defend and uphold) if it is politically expedient?

You either defend the Constitution or you don’t. Which side are you on?

Can you read? If so you would have understood from the beginning that I don't like what the president has done but at the same time can see that it has given him the upper hand because congress has once again failed us. if this still confuses you I will come back tomorrow and use props and puppets to help you understand.

Terrible, and they won’t. Amazing How quick the right abandons the constitution for this guy. You think he’ll be the last one to do this?

What Trump has done is known as a publicity stunt with not one chance in Hell of getting past the courts. The Constitution is pretty explicit on the subject. So why has he done it? To give people like you the opportunity to say "those damn democrats". Many laws are cynically passed in Congress for the same reason, Congressmen know damn well a law they pass won't fly in court but they can go back to their constituents and say they tried but it's those damned activist courts.

Meanwhile congress will pass a new deal and life goes on. The real question here will be will voters believe that Trump has gone off the reservation and is demonstrating at best his ignorance of the constitution or will they see the democrats in upholding the constitution blocking money in their pockets?

    LOL

Love the spin. You say congress will pass a bill. Why haven't they done so already? They are the reason Trump acted.

Ok. So you disagree with what he’s done. Good.

In that case, why should it be up to Democrats in Congress to challenge him? If he is really trampling on the constitution, surely you will agree with me that all members Of Congress - both Rs and Ds - should challenge him? They should all take him to court to stop this unconstitutional action.

My sweet petunias! It isn't that complicated. If congress had done their job to begin with there would have been no need for Trump to use the pen. Congress failed. Trump responded. Right or wrong once again the federal government has f**ked us over.

Trump responded unconstitutionally. I thought he was supposed to be some kind of great, probably the greatest ever he's heard it said, deal maker.
It would have been simple "Mitch, Mitch Mitch. Give up the idea of putting the building of a new FBI building on this bill. Let's make it about helping people that are hurting." See? That's not so hard.

It’s totally true and it won’t be allowed. We won’t give up voter ID nor will we give up signature verified absentee ballots. Any mass mail in ballot initiative we agree to must have either a form of certified voter ID or signature verification or we won’t agree and states that set up new mass mail in ballots without one of those security provisions we will take to court to cancel their plan or achieve some form of voter security with no ballot harvesting.
