In an effort to make a school more conservative, DeSantis seems well on his way to dictating thought to ensure that people are like him. Well, not like him, but seemingly willing to be obedient to him.

Gov. Ron DeSantis began the process Friday of transforming Sarasota's New College of Florida into a more conservative institution, appointing six new board members, including conservative activist Christopher Rufo, a dean at conservative Hillsdale College and a senior fellow at The Claremont Institute, a right-wing think tank.

"It is our hope that New College of Florida will become Florida's classical college, more along the lines of a Hillsdale of the south," Florida Education Commissioner Manny Diaz said in a statement.

The shakeup of the 13-member board is certain to create major tensions at New College, an institution that started as a progressive private school before becoming the state's liberal arts honors college. The small school's student body and faculty have a reputation for leaning left politically.

 

Let the change occur and see what happens. You need to give change a chance. If you don't like the results, then change again

Did you know there are states literally mandating that gender and crt crap be taught to little kids? Why don’t you send them a nice letter telling telling them they shouldn’t be dictating what kids should be taught. And, unlike grade schools, there are plenty of other liberal colleges people can choose to go to. The fascist authoritarians keep shooting down school choice vouchers and charter schools for k-12.

 

By that standard, why not leave it alone and "see what happens" ?

History is nice to know but learning how to read and right is not only more important, too many kids aren’t learning it.

And the history the left wants to teach is focused on just a few things, racism and how much this country sucks. None of that will advance a kid into a good paying job. If anything, it will turn him into a failure who’s angry all the time.

Sounds like a good idea. New College is failing anyway, so it's a good opportunity in taking a failing hippie college and turn it into a classic one. Since Princeton removed it's Latin and Greek requirements in it's classical program, there is an opening there.

 

Just like a MAGA, he thinks he is a conservative leader and anyone else is a RINO. Let's see how he behaves when someone disagrees with him.

 

Unlike some other colleges, I’ll bet this school won’t consider handing out copies of the Constitution to be hate speech, violent or be sent packing by campus security. Remember those ‘free speech zones’ colleges had where conservatives could participate in the wonderful inclusive and diverse world of the left but only on that one secluded spot?

The right cant have that because they cant have ANYTHING that is not 100% America is the greatest country in the world. Why is learning about the sins of our past a bad thing. This is the innevitable result of publicly funded education. Govt pays for it, govt gets to make the rules. Go private. You pay for it, you get to make the rules.

I agree, and thus why the change is occurring.

 

Property tax needs to be done away with anyway. Everything funded by property tax can instead be funded by increasing sales and/or income tax (one of the only reasons Ill support increasing either). Renting our property from the govt (and getting evicted if we stop paying rent) is no way to approach 'property rights'.

 

I don’t know where you live but where I live , a Math genius or a Brain surgeon will not get any job if he is racist or sexist. So yea , learning history, learning racism is bad, learning respecting woman and treat them equally like a man, is equally important as learning how to read or do calculus.

Something seriously wrong with a society who thinks STEM education will advance society without learning history, culture, arts, literature, ethics etc.

New College isn't conservative. It was private and could not stand on its own. It is now a state college. If folks want more leftist curriculum then head south a couple miles to Ringling college. It's a private school and is only about $70k per annum, and you can get your belly full of leftist ideals if that is important to you.

That is the beautiful thing. Students can choose to go where they want and if leftist/statist ideas are what you wish, then go to a school that promotes them

 

Well, the upside is that we won't have to listen to the complaints of grooming young people any longer.

 

Being racist and sexist is now a requirement to even attend medical school...

This is basically Christianity without the possibility of redemption if you are a white male. It is teaching doctors to hate patients that are white. We need a new elite that will fight for ordinary people. The elite we have are completely unfit for purpose.

Real world consequences to medical racism is the denial of medical care based on race. My brothers were denied monoclonal antibodies for Covid because they were white.
