I'm looking for the best news source possible. At the moment, I read the wall Street Journal but succumb occasionally to others because I'm as addicted to the internet as everyone else. It's making me sick and crazy. Ariana Pekary resigned from MSNBC (as did Bari Weiss from the NY Times) with a message to all news producers, journalists, and us: "The [cable news] model blocks diversity of thought and content because the networks have incentive to amplify fringe voices and events, at the expense of others. All because it pumps up the ratings." More here: https://www.arianapekary.net/post/follow-up-a-note-about-ideology This seems obvious enough, and it is. What has been less obvious to me is the effect this "model" is having on our collective psyche. I can't stand liberals and they can't stand me. This would likely be the case even if there were no such thing as cable news. But cable and network news are making things worse. I don't like the fact that I don't even want to listen to another liberal (some of them friends or ex-friends) tell me how bad the cops are, how Justice Kavanaugh is a rapist, how we need more money and CRT in education, how Trump is a fascist, how Republicans don't think black lives matter, how Cuba has great health care, how debt doesn't matter, how trans women should be allowed to compete -- as females -- in high school, how abortion is a fundamental right (it isn't). Those positions are all repulsive to me, but they are held by intelligent people who have the same right to vote and to compete for undecided votes as I do. Many are here and have nearly gotten me banned by provoking me to sarcasm, snark, and worse. If you had asked me just a year ago whether we needed "a dialog," I would have said no. This "no" was in part a reaction to the abolition of calm discourse in the major news organs, especially cable tv. I've changed my mind. I don't like losing friends and don't want to get shot in in the impending civil war. I have discontinued watching cable news but need a news source. The WSJ is conservative but at least it's not trying to brainwash me ... I don't think so, anyway, but if it is brainwashing me, how would I know? Anyway, I'm a happy subscriber thereto and am open to other possibilities. I like Matt Taibbi, who is liberal but refreshing because he at least recognizes the rot that has set in at the major news outlets.
Don't matter, it's all agenda driven...local affiliate stations are bad enough, but national ones are propaganda mills from top to bottom. Just pick any one and have a stiff drink handy.
Riiiiiight, brought to you by the same guy who gave you The Washington Post and the Fox Propaganda Channel.
I get most of my news here at PF. If thats not enough, find a news website that hasn't disabled its public comments yet. Those that have did so because people kept debunking their lies and exposing their propaganda. The Hum-Int isn't particularly reliable, just more reliable than 'the news.'
~ I am my own information detective. I do not pay attention to "news" as it is mostly opinion stated as fact and tainted with an agenda. I search out independent journalism and go back a year to "fact check " the reports.
