"Kay Longstaff, 46, an air hostess, was accused of causing massive disruption to fellow passengers while costing Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) hundreds of thousands of pounds in compensation."

Whatever the answer, she sure ain't camera-shy? And she's about the right age for a bit of attention-seeking.

The most mind-numbingly boring story of the year so far, shirley??

Most of that is behind a paywall but from what I did read she fell 75 ft. and survived 10 hours in the ocean.

    That's pretty amazing.

I could do that but I've had water survival training, I doubt this woman has.

Sounds like she may have been pushed.....since I can't read the full article I am probably sure she has told the authorities what happened.

I've never been on a cruise but I think its fairly hard to just fall off unless you are drunk, at which point you probably will drown anyways.

So she says? Although I read that in a calm and temperate sea, it would be possible to survive by alternately floating, and short spells of swimming to try to stay in the vicinity (if that's possible without becoming disoriented) whilst awaiting rescue.

Yes, alternate floating can allow you a lot of time, if its calm seas, or if she knew how to make a life preserver out of her clothing on the fly it wouldn't really be an issue either.

That should always be your first choice.

If you are going to alternate float though you don't want to swim at all, its all about conserving energy and honestly it takes some serious practice.

Not everyone can do it effectively enough to survive.

She must've been ever so wrinkled though, by the time they fished her out?

I'd imagine she at least had hypothermia, you can get that in 80 degree water if your in it for that long with no protection.

Water conducts heat out of your body.

Well it serves her right for grandstanding for attention - I have no sympathy for the woman. I mean, presuming the safety rail at the back of a ship is probably chest-high, that would really take a lot ingenuity to 'accidentally fall from'?

    What do you think happened?

Suicide maybe, then a change of heart once she hit the water?

Wha'evah - who cares? The point is that it wasn't an accident. If someone commits suicide it's because they want to.
