On radio now. Tmz claims he had no brain activity last night and decision was made to stop life support.

True, but we're all on that path.

    http://www.tmz.com/2017/10/02/tom-petty-found-unconscious-full-cardiac-arrest/
Tom Petty was rushed to the hospital Sunday night after he was found unconscious, not breathing and in full cardiac arrest ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

EMTs rushed to his Malibu home and were able to get a pulse. He was rushed to the UCLA Santa Monica Hospital and our sources say he was put on life support.

Petty's condition is unknown but was critical from the moment he was found.

Petty, who became famous with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in 1978 with "Breakdown," is 66.

We've been in touch with numerous people from Petty's camp and they are clearly upset but not talking.

Tom Petty Taken Off Life Support Following Hospitalization: Report
10/2/2017 - Tom Petty was put on life support Monday (Oct. 2) after suffering cardiac arrest. Conflicting reports followed that caused confusion, saying that he has died at the age of 66 -- these were later revealed to be erroneous. CBS News' breaking news tweet citing LAPD has since been deleted. The LAPD later tweeted out an apology: "The LAPD has no information about the passing of singer Tom Petty. Initial information was inadvertantly [sic] provided to some media sources. However, the LAPD has no investigative role in this matter. We apologize for any inconvenience in this reporting."

First they said he was dead, then they said he wasn't dead. Now he is dead again. I am really getting sick and tired of the media and their incompetency because they are in such a hurry to scoop the other guys.

Just yesterday I was seriously purviewing a Petty LP.
    I have only one new Tom Petty LP { from Barnes & Nobel }
I ended up getting a Beck Hansen LP.His music is very well recorded
and sounds marvy.Plus is quite unique.
I remember a song on my new Petty LP.
    - American Girl -. But it always reminds me of the horror flick
    - Silence of the Lambs -.

It's odd that I like country and western but have never even heard of this guy. In a short clip on tv news last night he didn't seem to be outstanding or distinctive. Subjective, I suppose. [IMG]

For two generations Tom Petty was a a major influence. For those born after 1995, whose music unfortunately belongs to their grandparents, not so much.

That's on you, not on Tom. Check his music. You will know some of it, I am quite sure.

He wasn't country and western. Southern twinged rock would be the best description of his work.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Petty

Zac Brown on his Facebook feed said that they often listened to Tom Petty on streaming playlists, and were always surprised when they heard a song that they had forgotten about. He had hits from the late 1970s to the early 1990s.

He's not country or western. He's complicated in terms of genre, but a mix of rock, classic rock, southern rock, and a hint of blues.

He was just like Bing Crosby. A real crooner.

I'm not blaming Tom for my not having heard his name before, I'm just saying how odd it is that I haven't when I'm familiar with all the other mainstream C&W singers?

He looked and sounded like any other singer who walked in off the street to me. But like I said - subjective, I suppose. 'One man's meat . . . ', and all that!
