I didn't either, and I like it too! Unfortunately it reeks of COMMON SENSE, which nowadays is the kiss of death for proposed legislation.
I was aware of what many companies are doing, and how they are bricking their products if you don't use their specific repair facilities or try to do it yourself. Overall, I agree with this movement, although there might be details that I will disagree with. Now I will say, I do support a company policy of any warranty is instantly void if you try to repair it your self or seek a third party repair service. Basically, once you or someone else messes with it, they are no longer responsible for what goes wrong, because you or the third party could have done something to throw other parts out of whack.
Yeah, I'm really hoping this movement takes off. I think it's really cool and I hope they stick it to the companies that are screwing people over.
Agreed 100%. As far as I know, R2R does not undermine this dynamic. I hope it stays that way, cuz it could kill the whole thing.
I am aware of the issue. It really only makes sense on every day things. I know farmers get quite upset about it, but a lot of the new farm set ups are super high tech and little things could potentially throw off the calibration for things like chemical applications.
