For non-political reasons, I've used Aljazeera News as the source report of this story of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi's disappearance. Although every network has picked up this story, I have always relied on Aljazeera News to be the most constantly credible news source for international news.

    https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2018...journalist-disappearance-181006144026186.html

Turkish police believe Khashoggi killed inside Saudi consulate
Turkish security sources say the missing journalist may have been killed and his body moved out of the consulate.

Turkish authorities believe that prominent Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who disappeared four days ago after entering Saudi Arabia's consulate in Istanbul, has been killed.

"The initial assessment of the Turkish police is that Mr Khashoggi has been killed at the consulate of Saudi Arabia in Istanbul. We believe that the murder was premeditated and the body was subsequently moved out of the consulate," a Turkish official told Reuters news agency on Saturday.

A Saudi source at the consulate denied that Khashoggi had been killed at the mission and said in a statement that the accusations were baseless, Reuters reported.

Turkey's announcement came four days after the leading critic of the Saudi regime entered the kingdom's consulate in Istanbul on Tuesday to obtain paperwork.

Al Jazeera's Jamal Elshayyal, reporting from Istanbul, said there has not been any disclosure of the whereabouts his body.

"However, we have heard a funeral will take place in the coming two or three days," he said before adding that it was unknown if Khashoggi's body will be present at the funeral.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's the under-story and why journalists all over the world are being endangered by anti-journalist rhetoric. Journalist Jamal Khashoggi went into the Saudi embassy in Turkey to pick up paperwork and never emerged. He was about to be married and his fiance' waited outside the embassy for him, he never emerged.

Journalist Jamal Khashoggi was a journalist for the Washington Post. The U.S. State Department has been notified of his disappearance but so far has been silent about this. It's not difficult to put 2 + 2 together. For more than a year, Mr. Khashoggi called attention in his columns to the increasingly authoritarian behavior of the Saudi crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman. Unnamed sources in Turkey said Turkish investigators believe that Mr. Khashoggi was murdered inside the consulate. If true, this is a horrific crime, the assassination of a journalist in his own country’s consulate on foreign soil — something without precedent in modern times.

President Trump has treated the Saudi crown prince as a favored ally, and his administration sidestepped criticism of the regime’s abuses. The State Department’s recent decision to certify that Saudi forces were taking adequate steps to avoid civilian casualties in Yemen — against all the evidence — sent a terribly wrong message. Why aren't they speaking up?

Listen to what Trump says regarding the press being 'the enemy of the people' and 'fake news'. He's putting a bounty on the heads of every journalist around the world. This is dangerous **** right here and our heads are too buried into debating insignificant matters that the important things that affect our democratic core are being overlooked. I hate that this is happening to our county but I'll quote the late George Carlin "Don't sweat the petty stuff and don't pet the sweaty stuff." Leave the hyperbole and the nonsensical rhetoric to those that cling to it but put your head into the things that will matter to your grandchildren.

Given this board's reaction after American journalists were killed by a crazy gunman, I wouldn't expect much concern or remorse over the death of a Saudi journalist.

He was probably drugged and his unconscious body smuggled out of the country.

I wouldn't be surprised if we hear about his execution in Saudi Arabia in a few months, based on some trumped up charges.
(Of course they won't say anything about how he ended up back in Saudi Arabia)

And here again we have a very nice example of the American ignorance and hypocrisy that so often exists and what I've talked about so often here in this forum especially in relation to Saudi Arabia!

Had this happened to an Iranian opposition journalist in the Iranian embassy in Ankara, Donald Trump would have long ago released a shitstorm via Twitter!

But the reaction to this thread also shows the same ignorance and hypocrisy among all the many Trump followers and fans regarding the voews and answers.
As long as their Donald says nothing, they say nothing too and only shrug their shoulders!

Turkey hasn't produced the video that they "claim" to have. I don't put it past Turkey to make false statements. I will wait till they release the video and it is verified before I form an opinion.

You have some sort of evidence that other presidents would have acted different? Or is this just another cheap slam on Trump?

Trump.didnt order it. But the man who probably did is best buds with Trump's son in law. And that compromises the Trump administration. Well, even more, that is.

No, it's based on a mountain of evidence that shows Trump prefers authoritarian ideas, demonizes the press, and will happily put our western values on a shelf in favor of his personal interests. Trump cultists have a hard time seeing this.

On the contrary, I would say Trump's abdication of Western values in no small part contributes to the wild events we are seeing.

No, it's a valid point worth talking about. As Trump abdicates any shred of moral and ethical leadership this country had left, the world order is becoming very "trumpian".

Exactly which western values do you think Trump embraces in practice. Monogamy perhaps? Honesty perhaps?
