As reported the DNC has given the 21 current candidates 10 days to get the necessary poll numbers to continue to be allowed to participate in the next debates.

The arbitrary criteria set by the DNC states candidates must have 130,000 unique donors and 2% of the overall polling numbers. This criteria limits polls candidates can use to those taken by mainstream media sources such as CNN.

This will almost certainly eliminate candidates who had a measured impact in the first 2 debates such as Tulsi Gabbard.

These are the candidates that have so far qualified for the autumn debates:

So far, nine candidates have made the September debate: former Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) and entrepreneur Andrew Yang.

Does this move by the DNC effectively silence alternative voices and promote candidates it pre-approved by the party's corporate donors?

Sounds a bit like the DNC actively supporting Hillary over Bernie despite the fact that Sanders may have had a better chance at beating Trump.

The DNC is at it again...I am sure they finally upgraded the security on their servers but I’m willing to bet we’d again see the dnc collusion with individual campaigns to undermine the primaries

Looks like I need to donate to Castro, really want to see him get more time.
At least the dems hold a primary, trump won’t debate his challenger at all.

No, the gop doesn’t have any primaries. The incumbent gets the nomination...just like when Obama, Bush, Clinton et al all ran when they were incumbent presidents. Geez

Your are of course right. We know the dnc has a history of doing this, given their lack of security. One of the biggest things we learned from 2016 is that the party will collude with the person they want to undermine primaries.

I can see the 130,000 unique donors criteria, but this strikes me as problematic:

This criteria limits polls candidates can use to those taken by mainstream media sources such as CNN.

Given the media's history of bias and skewing polls, this seems like a really bad idea. Why the DNC doesn't conduct its own polling amongst registered Democrats is somewhat of a mystery to me...

Tell that to jimmy carter and Ford. Gop rigging the primary and you don’t even care.

Then who would run against Trump? That's the obvious problem with your statement: the GOP knows who it's going to run. It will run the guy who won last time. There is no such obvious candidate for the Dems.

It's a shame Gabbard didn't get more support.

The dnc did just that when Obama was an incumbent, and Clinton...why do you all think the rules should change just because trump beat Clinton?

I agree - I'm not a fan of her politics but she has some personal qualities that I respect.

I'm also sorry to see that the man who appeared to be the most sane candidate in the Democratic field, Michael Bennett, isn't making the cut but I can't say I'm the least bit surprised.

Jimmy Carter lost to Reagan...and there were no primaries. Kennedy just tried a coup.

Ford was never elected and more over only said he’d run after others started campaigning.

Totally different issue with Ford as far as ted Kennedy...well we know how power hungry he was...moreover the writing was on the wall with jimmy, now only the second worst president in history after Obama.

What Dem has your eye at the moment? Or is it just "whatever Dem wins I'm voting blue" type of deal? Just curious. Feel free to deflect

There are no rules and nobody tried to challenge Obama in the dnc.
Why are you so afraid of having a primary? Why should the gop get to rig the primary?

No, but you certainly seem to be. Reading comprehension, bro. The question is, who are the Dems going to run if they don't have a primary? The GOP knows who it's running. The incumbent.

So I was right. Anyone blue has your vote, correct? You said you're "undecided" but you've 100% decided lol.

Yep, it’s an unwritten rule. There Were a number of challengers...john Wolfe, Darcy Richardson and Keith Judd come to mind
