Right, that makes the most sense of all. The advanced technology will drive the price of vehicles so high that most people will not be able to afford it. In addition, the liability & insurance required will be shifted to the manufacturer which will also drive up the price. Then you have the maintenance that will also be shifted to the manufacturer. As all these costs get shifted to the manufacturer or the "Car Service", the average person would simply order car service when needed.

That's where I believe it's headed, but I'd rather have the freedom to drive my own vehicle locally and perhaps only use the "car service" for long distance travel.

To each his own. I'd immensely prefer to sit back and read or text or post hear or almost anything other than drive. And given how some of the assclowns around here drive getting them out from behind the wheel without fatalities can't happen soon enough

Some of the 4 passenger air / auto vehicles I have seen beat the automobile all over. And the person in control can operate it automatically from take off to landing.

That is the future. One way or the other, they will end up putting sensors in roads. The car could be linked to GPS I guess and that probably is how the air car that flies does it too. But that one does not need a landing strip. It sets down virtually vertically.

This would be a good idea for the very rich. But most workers never can afford the air car. But this is what i was speaking of as the future.

Supposedly, both some toll fees and state gasoline taxes are to be used for road and highway maintenance, which appears to be an out and out lie, as the condition of our roads only gets worse as the tolls and gasoline taxes rise.

It's called unfunded federal mandates There are states where as much as a third of the state budget is mandated by the feds and the money for that has to come from some where.

I know it isn't being spent in repairing our cratered roads.

Taking trains and buses from the low density suburbs to medium density small cities doesn't make sense. It only makes sense for fairly large cities.

Thats why I think the driver assisted cars will be the norm, not self-driving cars.

At least federally, gas taxes haven't changed since 1993. They have been 18.4 cents per gallon, meaning that in constant dollars, it has almost halved (18.4 cents in 1993 converted to 2019 dollars is about 32 cents). Tolls and state taxes are a different issue. Talk to your state about that.

Aside from stealing other people's wealth, is there anything you don't want ban or outlaw?

Not only no but he'll no. Once the car drives you, you have become just a package to be shipped.
