As a someone who does not really care about abortion, I thought I would like to express my thoughts, since people like me probably make up the majority of people, and those who argue for and against abortion do not hear much from us.

First, let me say there are so many other issues. Decent jobs are very hard to find and many people are depressed. Our young adults cannot afford to move out or buy a car, and some are even comitting suicide. With this going on, how can you expect me to care much about whether a baby is killed or not?
Conservatives make such a big fuss over the "right to life", while ignoring the right to a decent standard of living for those of us that are alive.

I am very much against circumcision, and obviously there is an irony. Why do I care so much about another baby's genital integrity but not the babies life?

My personal opinion is that a zygote, which is just a clump of growing cells, is is not a human life. Yes, it could turn into a human life if allowed to keep on growing in the womb, but the same could be said of all the sperm that comes out of a man and women's eggs. The reproductive cells, like the zygote, also have potential to become human lives. Just because the sperm and egg meet does not mean that a human life is magically created at that moment. I think abortion is completely okay if done within 20 days of conception, but after that time the body parts begin to develop, and I would not feel good about aborting something which had a head, limbs, and little fingers. Although I think the brain does not really begin growing until two months, there is still a primitive "brain" within 30 days, which, considering it may possibly have some sentient conciousness and will very soon turn into a human, is morally problematic to kill.

If an abortion is done, I feel the undeveloped baby deserves a more dignified death than being vacuum-torn into little bits while it is still struggling to get away.

Although I think abortion is generally wrong, I think the woman should have a legal right to choose, as the baby would not be able to survive outside the mother's womb. But if the baby is six months along, then abortion would be wrong, because the baby could potentially survive without the mother if an early birth was induced. Even if the abortion is wrong, it would also be wrong to force the mother to continue with an unwanted baby inside her. And for interracial rape, I would not question a woman wanting an abortion.

So many pregnant teens are getting abortions now. I think the fact that it is so difficult for a pregnant young adult to survive in our society deserves some attention. It is so easy to blame the mother, but much harder to recognize there are serious problems in our society that should be fixed. I read in a sociology book that often the "problems" which middle class people percieve to be in lower class people are actually solutions to other more pressing problems. Abortion would be an excellent example of this.

This is just the thoughts of someone that does not really care much about abortion. Even though I have some opinions, I do not feel strongly enough to become an activist. I have also noticed that most of the "pro-choice" people are women, whereas "pro-life" people are all religious. While more men seem to be "pro-life" than women, most of the these men do not seem to care nearly as much as the "pro-life" women.

Neither do I. A woman should do what she wants to do, so long as it's legal.

This definitely sounds like the general American's opinion on abortion. It sounds fairly confused and it's not a very strong opinion, but then again that's what happens when it's a subject you don't care much about.

I agree there are far more pressing issues that need to be dealt with, I also agree that by helping women who have little to no income there would be less chance of them choosing abortion. And I believe better sex education would really help decrease the number of abortions. I certainly don't base my entire political opinion on abortion alone, but I do love debating it!

I think the only thing out of your entire paragraph that absolutely no sense to me was,

Don't you mean all rape? Or really...you only mean interracial??? That's a little odd to me because I can't imagine most women wanting to carry their rapist's fetus to term no matter what race he is.

Morality and consensus are not the same thing.

Women buried up to their chests in sand and bludgeoned with stones are not considered innocent human life among the majority of some cultures.

Well the bolded portion of your post is appauling. SO we are now to beleive that premeditated homicide, as a means to address social issues within our society, is perfectly acceptable. I could not disagree more.

I have to agree that society has many problems right now, but condoning premeditated homicide doesn't sound like something that will make that situation better.

"Save the foreskin, kill the babies"

Maybe the OP meant incestuous rape? You know, a father or brother raping a young daughter or sister.

There are people in the USA that are dying from poverty. When people are forced to sleep on the streets or in parks, they tend to get sick from the long and repeated exposure to the cold and rain at night. While I do not care about abortion, one thing I do dislike is conservatives emphasizing "personal responsibility" to make up for all the shortfalls in society. I do not think middle class women have any idea of how difficult it is for a mother in poverty to take care of an unwanted baby.

Not only is it a great burden, but in some cases taking care of an additional unwanted baby can actually endanger the lives of the mother and her other children. Will there be enough money to see a doctor if one of them gets sick, will the family end up homeless? That extra baby likely will mean there will be no money to buy medical insurance.

You want to protect the right to life, fine, but make sure you also protect the lives of the poor from oppressive land ownership laws. As many doctors will tell you, quality of life is at least as important a consideration as length of life.

Only if they refuse the aid that is out there for them will tehy "die of poverty". You are talking out of your rectum.

But basically you are saying, "yes Whaler premeditated homicide should be allowed to alleviate social problems." Appauling :omg:

You can tell he/she is clearly on the fence or totally indifferent to the debate since he/she has bits and pieces of pro-life/pro-choice viewpoints on the issue.

I honestly believe her initial claim based on her entire post alone. I think he/she sounds like the general American that if prompted about their thoughts on abortion it would probably sound something like this...just very confused and either indifferent or on the fence about it.

Seems to be very poorly thought out. Why would the existence of arms,a head, etc make a difference. Because it looks more like us at that point? Basing a right to life argument on such a criterion as looks is weak and irresponsible.

There are pro abortion stance opinions that have so support (posted by her or anyone else).

really??? zygote= just a clump of human cells

the right to a decent standard of living

IMHO, the OP clearly reveals his/her liberal agenda. I don't think "most Amerricans" are "on the fence" about killing babies. When pressed, they fall on either side. They, like you support killing babies or they are like me and cherish life.

Many Americans ARE "on the fence" until it affects them personally. Many Americans are pro-life until it affects them personally.

When you say you "cherish life", don't you really mean that you cherish and value "human life"? I doubt you suffer moral qualms after stepping on a bug or swatting a mosquito, or that you feel guilt from consuming a steak. What is it about a zef that separates it from other animals?

It is, which is essentially what I already said. It sounds like a fairly confused and not very well thought out opinion.

But then again, that's what happens when it's a subject one does not care much about or hold as a priority.

I have a very simple morality:
if it looks like a baby, it is a baby.
if it looks like a hideous creature from another world, kill it!

    http://blogs.saschina.org/aplangpd/files/2010/04/Human-Embryo.jpg
for all I care, the above image could be the fetus from a cow.
Does that mean we have the moral right to kill it? No.
But it is no more morally problematic than eating a hamburger.
(I do make a serious attempt to limit the number of dead animals I ingest)

Why is everyone so focused on what happens to the babies inside the womb, what about after they turn 18 ? I have heard that the orphanages/"foster" care in the USA can be very bad places for children to grow up in, especially when one looks at the statistics for orphans after they become adults. A 2007 study in the state of California, the Children’s Advocacy Institute reported that 65% of foster youth do not have a place to live upon emancipating, 51% are unemployed, the percentage of all former foster youth who ever obtain a college degree is only 1– 3%. Compared to these grim statistics, even a religious conservative would have to admit that a gay family is a 'blessing' by comparison.

    trivial information
In 2008, British scientists produced human-animal hybrid embryos by inserting human DNA from a skin cell into a hollowed-out cow embryo. "An electric shock then induced the hybrid embryo to grow," London's Guardian reported. "The embryo, 99.9 percent human and 0.1 percent other animal, grew for three days, until it had 32 cells."

Only - normally - if they go against Sharia law, like the good old days in America when Bible-bashers murdered black people by mob hanging and believed themselves, ludicrously, to be Christian.

he is a full on socialist..note the 'freedom from oppressive landownership laws'...which have nothing to do with abortion.

and just by the by...I was raised in public housing, I know what it is to go hungry but I still don't agree that a poor person's baby is worth less than a rich person's. The poor have as much right to life as anyone.

Pity they get so much less of it then, and under such crappy conditions that being kept alive at the command of the big fat bosses is not such a delight as it might be for the trough-hoggers themselves.

This is true. That is what I find so facinating about the leftist. They outwardly want everyone to think they are concerned about the downtrodden and underpriveledged, but if you listen to what they propose, they really just want to exterminate them.

Bulls enjoy excretion in the same way. Money doesn't make you happy - but being robbed and bullied by fatpigs maKes most people depressed and/or angry.
