Thank you! Some of my ancestors had the last name Mason who were United Empire Loyalists. They left "Dixie" to come to Country Harbour, Guysborough County, N. S. I kind of suspect that the 'Southern Drawl" is a survival technique............. by speaking slowly my ancestors could consider how to answer questions......... partly to decrease the probably of being executed as traitors to the USA????

 

A lot of people got chased away by our freedom loving *cough cough* founders and their motley crew of sheep. Patriotism and the like just never worked with me. I knew it was BS when I was a kid and I know it today. I could be just as happy other places in the world, just as purposeful, etc.

 

Our ancestors faced some astonishingly challenging situations..... for example....
my English ancestors had good reason to fear French Canadians..... If the French had armed their First Nations allies in a major part of Canada....... they could have wiped out my ancestors and taken Canada, or most of Canada, for France!

Those historical insights put a somewhat different spin on some of the terrible injustices of our history?!

On a similar note .... if my English ancestors had armed their First Nations allies in the USA during those two decades from seventeen fifty to seventeen seventy or so .............................................. the consequences for America could have been pretty intense?!

 

Maybe. For most of my life, from elementary school on, I have been raised not with the horrors of 9/11 but the photos of the dead. The stories of young men and sometimes women who should have been alive. They should have been at home or in college, or having babies, or anything else rather than dying for some pointless political war in Iraq. Other than England, not a lot of families around the war were losing children. It just emphasized how pointless and dangerous political ego wrapped in a flag can be. I am not an anarchist, but I really have no love and affection for America for doing that to our own people. It is our unpardonable sin in my book and always will be.

I think you would be quite happy in England.....that is if you weren't Scottish or Irish. My ancestors were quite happy at taking down the Hessians and Lobsterbacks that forced taxation without representation on them.

 

It is one of the places I have been seriously considering. Western Ireland is another. Even if I don't do it during my working career, I may take the leap in retirement.

I've been watching a British real estate show on TV a couple of times a month; small houses out in the middle of nowhere going for outrageous prices, and many still have straw for roofing. No thanks. That is an excellent point...... we Canadians did go into WWI and WWII first due to our closer ties to England, (or should I say to Europe because so many Canadians speaking French played an important role as well)!?

as a country we can apologize for our past, but it's not current white Americans that are responsible for that past, just like as a country we can thank white Americans for fighting to free the slaves, even though that credit doesn't go to current white Americans alive today

Canada that we should not use the two central banks owned by the citizens but instead
