I have no clue where this phenomenon derrived from, but I have noticed that especially Americans tend to comment they find "this" or "that" (foreign) accent "sexy". I know voice plays apart in attraction (men tend to prefer soft voices whereas women prefer deeper), but accents? Really? When it comes to my native language, there is not one accent I would say "turns me on", in fact, I would say most accents sound either really stupid or they just are what they are. The same applies for English. I really don't get how an accent in itself can be "sexy". I could go as far as saying it sometimes can be "cute", but then it probably depends more on the person than on the accent. Imo, it is quite a weird fetish to have to obsess over accents. What is your take; do you find foreign accents to be "sexy"? Why do you think it is, so many people seem to do so? If you do think it is "sexy", which is your favourite accent and why?
You know, it's interesting. I always greatly disliked the sound of Spanish. While in the Navy and cruising the Atlantic for 6 months a course in Spanish was offered. I decided that my dislike was silly and that I should get over it, and what better way than to take Spanish classes. So I signed up and took the classes. It didn't help. I still dislike the sound of it. French? Fine. German? Ok. Chinese? Good. I even like the sound of many African tribal languages. And I love the sound of American Native pronunciation. But Spanish? Please no.
A French woman speaking English with a French accent has always been referred to as 'sexy' but, I think most 'sexiness' is how a woman acts. I have heard that a lot of American women like the sound of a man with a British accent.
I don't think it's sexy or the opposite really.. I have family with heavy accents so I'm used to it I suppose..
Sometimes, but very often I do not. I personally find that most french women speaking English do not sound especially sexy, unless maybe you are into Down's Syndrome people. More often it seems that Hispanic women can work that angle better, but that may be because I encounter far more of them than French ones these days.
At first, I might find a foreign accent to be "intriguing." However, I can imagine that a lot of them probably get annoying too.
I used to have lunch periodically with this artist form Ireland and his wife. I had no idea what the heck they were saying half the time. Lovely people though. I would just ask them leading open-ended questions and they would talk on. It was a lot less awkward than them asking me stuff and I had no idea what they were asking.
There were a lot of students from Finland at my university. The girls were all 100% smoking....until they opened their mouths. Such an ugly language. I referred to them as having post-stroke accents because it reminded me of stroke victims learning to speak again.
As far as American English goes, southern accent is the "hottest" unless it is exaggerated of course. Find that southern vibe to be really cousy.
I had a neighbor from Alabama or Mississippi or somewhere in hicksville. She was big, fat and annoying as all hell. Lol.
I've never liked southern accents at all. They just say some words WRONG. Like "crick." What the hell is a crick?
They talk too slow too. They always seem to talk reaaaallly slow and drawl out all of their words. Us northerners are just lazy and don't feel like saying "r."
I try to talk normally and say my "r's". I don't really care much for the Boston accent either. It gets worse the closer you get to Boston too. People from Fall River (or Fall Riva) tend to have a really exaggerated accent.
How dare you compare Finnish to a fat and ugly broad? Okay...Tbf, Finnish is probably only cool to me because Finnish women - as you pointed out - are very beautiful and mezmarise me with their looks lolz. Dixie pride!
