Offline, most people do not associate with those with whom they strongly disagree. Online you can talk/argue with your opponents/enemies ad infinitum. And that can be a great break from friends offline.

But for those of us who have no offline friends, online negativity may be too much.

the republican in my family are not as dishonest as many we see in congress and online, most admit Trump is not a good President, but they also admit they would not vote Democrat either, they will just be happy when he is out of office so things can go back to normal and they can be proud to be a republican again

most from both parties I talk to also seem to think it doesn't really matter who wins, neither party can turn this country around at this point, some republicans actually hope Trump loses as they think than they can blame the coming crash on democrats, just like if Trump wins we blame it on Republicans

I feel that way about both Republicans and Democrats.

I think Washington DC on 95% scumbags top to bottom throughout all branches and agencies..

The most credible group in the city is the supreme court

Thanks. Overall I am looking more for friends then for foes. Thus I am on two small forums -- not Twitter/YouTube.

sadly as the ship sinks, it's gonna get more corrupt I think, both sides blaming the other while doing things they should not be doing, already seeing it with the Trump admin, and both sides will defend the wrong doing on their side as "the end justifies the means"

Either way i think we will see a lot of turn over in 2020. Makes one think more about term limits.
Assuming there is a lot of corruption i hope there is solid proof in as many cases as possible. Things that leaves no doubt in anyones mind rather than just stuff tha has thr appearance of cortuption but that can be seen from different points of view.

    Re: the OP

no, but it comes with having an informed opinion. To sacrifice your beliefs and convictions for an illusion of public acceptance is a human tragedy. If we cannot trust our own minds, why should we trust other's?

All our lives, we are/will be:
    • Right
    • Wrong
    • Partially right/wrong
So will everyone else. Dogmatic certainty is no indicator of Truth, nor groupthink loyalty, nor expert consensus, nor cheers/jeers from ideologues.

Truth is a journey. It requires critical thinking, skepticism, and courage. It is not a path for the timid. Soothing assurances from echo chambers of homogeneity are better places for them.

He that would seriously set upon the search of truth, ought in the first place to prepare his mind with a love of it. For he that loves it not, will not take much pains to get it; nor be much concerned when he misses it. There is nobody in the commonwealth of learning who does not profess himself a lover of truth: and there is not a rational creature that would not take it amiss to be thought otherwise of. And yet, for all this, one may truly say, that there are very few lovers of truth, for truth's sake, even amongst those who persuade themselves that they are so. How a man may know whether he be so in earnest, is worth inquiry: and I think there is one unerring mark of it, viz. The not entertaining any proposition with greater assurance than the proofs it is built upon will warrant. Whoever goes beyond this measure of assent, it is plain receives not the truth in the love of it; loves not truth for truth's sake, but for some other bye-end. ~John Locke

the question though is ... is it too late - will it mater who wins in 2020, it is too late to prevent the coming crash?

Crash? I can see that meaning a lot of things. How do you mean it?

Economic crash? More serious confrontation between Ds and Rs?

Economic - I do see republicans losing big in 2020 like they did in 2018, but dems won't be able to fix this, I think it's too late

dems could delay it some with some stimulus to the working class, but I do not think it's preventable, it's too late

I think the world will be impacted as well as American consumers support other countries as well, and they will feel the impact as well when Americans stop consuming

I think if Democrats win big in 2020 there will be a big economic downturn. Like it or not the perception is is that Democrats are bad for the economy and people respond to their perceptions not to reality.

I fear things much greater that a slip in the economy.. things that will only come about if Democrats make good on their Campaign promises. Particularly as it relates to the 2nd ammendment.

there will be an economic downturn regardless of party

but like I said, each side will blame the other, your proving that

right now Trump is hoping he can delay it until after the election, surprised he has not requested a stimulus yet, but of course if he did, he would have to admit the economy was in trouble - catch 22

you mean making ar-15's harder for mass shooters to buy?

You mean making it harder for home protectors to buy Ar 15s?

It's absolutely reprehensible to punish millions of people for the deeds of a very tiny handful who will just find another means for their ends.

In Washington DC gun control is not about public safety it's about power.
Gun owners have power that some in DC do not want them to have because it limits their power.

you can buy many guns easily, but ar-15's and machine guns should be harder to buy

Machine guns are nearly impossible to but already the permits alone are tens of thousands of dollars.

I am sorry at this point in time the Ar 15 is vital to defense against tyranny and crime as are standars capacity 30 round magazines.

There is no law you can pass to keep them and guns like them out of the hands of the absolutely minuscule portion of the population who would use them from evil purposes.

I do not think Trump prearranged it, I think it actually started with Bush jr

both sides know it can't be fixed now and are just riding out the storm, waiting to blame it on the other side

You have to be an ultra rich gun collector to get a machine gun.

Machine guns and SMGs are war weapons. Civilians do not need them.
