You know, when the different network used to have regular news during supper time or around 10PM and really described what happened during the day with a few follow-ups?

Now there isn't any news anymore. About 90% of the news cast is editorials and opinions from people speaking goobledygook legalese for the most part. I blame the 24hrs news channels for this. Even more ridiculous when a local TV channel in Montreal waste time reporting a trivial event, like the Smollet case in Chicago and tries to find a parallel with what is happening here...

I watch regular news every night at 6:00 pm. Local news casts report the news. No pundits offering opinions about said news...just straight reporting.

Here we have 4 local stations. 3 of those also own and operate a 24hrs news channel. The news at 6:00 PM is just a rebroadcast of the 24hrs channel for 15 minutes... So no local news per se. In fact I have better luck with the free paper distributed in the metro if I want to know what is happening locally.

Social media has changed the news as we know it. Conventional media as we know, is outdated. I compare them to the dinosaurs looking up the asteroid coming towards them.
More people are turning to alternatives news sources.

You know the odds are that they were making up just as much crap as the guys do nowadays, it was just a lot harder for you to find out about it.

You had no internet to go fact check them on and they could say anything they wanted.

Kind of like police abuse. People think it's gotten way worse when in actuality it was probably way worse before cops were recorded 24/7 and everyone had a phone with a camera on it.

You mean when they reported the facts without bias?

In a sense yes. It's in the name "reporters". We had some great reporters here, especially crimes reporters. Many were well respected by both the police and criminals and were often called when a criminal wanted to surender and have his side of the story told. Now, how much time does your network or newspaper talk about local crimes? 5 minutes... Something in between two opinion piece?

they're gone, and its not just reporters its every trade every job...

for those that 'think' they get straight news at any time of day, are just that... thinking they are... there is no real true news, just because a tv personality didnt give their opinion it doesnt mean they reported truth, they usually report what someone else has 'opined', making it seem like real news...

I agree there is so much filler these days because there is not enough real news. At the same time I don't think we want to go back to a time when there were only 3 big networks and about a hundred left leaning journalists and editors could influence the nation.

In many broadcasts the anchor introduces the reporter in the field and the reporter gives us the facts of the story (the facts they think we should hear). Then the anchor will ask the reporter a pointed question about the event (a question they have both rehearsed prior). The reporter then gives a smooth and knowledgeable answer (show business). Then the anchor asks the reporter their opinion and the reporter tells us what they think along with such phrases as, "could have", "might be", "probably", "some say". Arrogance on high.

Not on anything I watch. You need to choose better sources.

Either you don't watch ABC, NBC, CBS, or if you do watch them you are not observant. I'll say this -- I watch ABC and NBC, also Fox, listen to talk radio, read sources on the internet, plus read my local newspaper. I also worked in the media business with many journalists most of my adult life. Can you top that?

What makes an alternative news source? News is news. Germany invades Poland. House burns- family homeless. that is news. opinions on why it happened is not news. The broadcast stations give excellent news coverage. It is up to you whether you want opinion with your news.

take for instance Venezuela, The news is that there is political strife, you want to form an opinion on the political strife you read opinions from both "warring" sides . If you want MSNBC or Fox to tell you why it is happening or what should be done about it fine by me.

They are turning to lower quality news sources where much of the fake news is generated.
