Do you pay US taxes on foreign unemployment cheques?

    If you are a US citizen, you are stuck with US taxes on you salary you got abroad when working abroad. I understand you can offset these taxes by the foreign wage exclusion. But do you actually have to start paying US taxes if you got laid off and your income is not a salary but an unemployment cheque in the foreign country?
