Define support. Should two people be able to legally join their finances and lives via contract recognized by the state? Absolutely. Can two people of the same gender join their souls via the religious covenant of marriage in the Christian faith? No Can two people join themselves in a non christian religious ceremony? depends on the religion
Seeing there is no such thing and never will be, you might as well ask if I support interbreeding between pixies and unicorns.
Having a ceremony inside a church is meaningless - except to those who choose it. Marriage is a civil agreement. Marry in a church but you are not legally married until you register it with the country clerk. And of course gays can marry in a christian church. I have attended same sex marriages in churches. They will still have to register it with the country clerk, just like you and me. IMO, neither government nor religion should have any control or say in our private lives.
I support the civil concept of unions or 'alliances' between people for the purpose of legal protections and prerogatives -- but NOT "marriage", per se.
Yes I support it. Marriage is just merely a legal contract between two adults. Religion and religious political influence should not impact marriage laws. Religion should be kept out of marriage law and or the influence of it. Gays have always been very educated the ones I've talked to and nice people. I see no reason why not. The culture is already far more liberal than people realize it is in America. In 10 or 15 years people won't believe these were even issues.
its settled law and 65% of Americans support the way it was settled. History is not going to revisit this one. Next question should the black people be allowed to vote?
So you agree with me on almost everything. The only place I think we differ is the end. Religion is a agreement between an individual and the faith. By joining the religion you accept its rules and traditions. Thus a person has invited the Church into their personal lives.
The only requirement for a contract is to have two consenting parties. Anyone can have a contract. Marriage defines historically a man and women who commit to eachother for life. I understand the culture has changed. How 'bout we call our "Christian Marriage" or Judeo Christian Marriage and others can call theirs LBGTQ marriage.....but we need to better define what we are describing. In no way are they the same.
Is not having a problem with gay marriage actually in support of it? I really don't care if they marry or not. But I don't think government should be able to tell anyone who can or can't be married. Would I get off my dead butt to help make gay marriage happen or to stop gays from marrying, no. Would a political candidate for some office who is either for gay marriage or against gay marriage, would that candidates stance determine my vote for or against him? Again no. I just don't have a problem with it.
What having a marriage under god is meaningful, under the government it is what's meaningless and the government had no right to stick it's nose in marriage in the first place. .
I don't support government sanctioning of marriage period so take that however you want in relation to your poll
So long as marriage is intertwined with government, there are benefits and privileges attached. Those benefits and privileges were originally designed to offset the costs incurred for raising families/children. Gays walk into the benefits and privileges without any of the consequences raising families/children. Until the government gets out of the marriage business completely, this is a matter that needs to be left to the states, or directly to the people. We've seen where that leads, which is why the gays had to go through activist judges to bypass the people...
What you call it or what they call it is not the issue. The issue is what society calls it by way of legislation; and if it does so at all, it needs to define marriage as between a man and a woman.
You all realize that the Supreme Court decision on gay marriage did just that - it stated that States cOULD NOT legislate against gay marriage. So basically, they were telling the state governments to stay out of marriage on this particular issue. Since there were churches that were perfectly fine with sanctioning gay marriage, the religious aspect of prohibiting gay marriage is also BS.
Congratulations. And by the way - Churches have been evolving for centuries. in 1908, only 4% of Americans though there would ever be mixed race marriages. Now, over 80% of Americans support it. Never say never.
What is there about blacks getting married that reminds you of homosexuals? Are you aware of what most blacks have to say over Homosexuals and marriage?
