I’m going to say yes. But truly only if you live in the county. You shouldn’t be able to in city limits for obvious reasons.

I live in the country and I don't care if folks shoot on their property all day long. Several of my neighbors shoot. The only "rule", other than shooting responsibly of course, I hope folks will follow is not to shoot at night and very early morning, which seems to be the way the folks shooting the guns feel too because that hasn't been an issue.

Here's a better question. Why was the illegal alien there in the yard in the first place? And no, unless you can safely manage where your round is going, you shouldn't shoot in the city limits. If you are on your large acreage and you can control your shot, why not?

This thread comes out of Governor Abbot mentioning that these people were illegal aliens. Reading their names what stands out is all seem to have had different last names so it sounds like the home was a shared residence for illegals. That is pretty common, many won't speak English at all. It sounds like the shooter here may have brought his lifestyle with him.

I do support the 2nd Amendment, but no one should be allowed to shoot any firearms in any inhabited area where other people live within the range of the gun being fired. I'm not a gun expert, but as I understand it, even a little .22 caliber bullet can travel more than a mile.

Idiots who shoot guns in the air have no idea where the bullet lands. Here's some news for the idiots. It has to land somewhere, and when it does it could kill someone or destroy property.

People who own guns need to be taught to use them properly. If they don't use guns properly, they should be banned from owning them. Driving a car is a privilege. Using a gun is something similar despite what the Second Amendment might say. If you are a felon, crazy or irresponsible, you should not have a gun.

I very much doubt that this creep, who had already been deported four times, had a "backstop". Besides why should a person in his own home have to listen to the noise of someone else of shooting guns? Neither the bullets nor the noise stop at a person's property line!

It depends on local laws and zoning. But in case you are conflicted, it is aways illegal to kill your neighbors even if you are a several times deported illegal alien.
Funny how our corrupt media missed that data point. Instead he was a "Texas man". Hint, hint: guns, conservatives, mom, apple pie, flags and stuff.

I think that would depend upon the yard, since safety considerations must take precedence over any others. That should probably also include an SUI/SWI law: that is, setting a max blood alcohol level, for someone shooting in a residential area.

Lastly, note that there are laws, already, concerning excessive noise, in residential areas, after a certain hour. If cops have to come out because a neighbor who is shooting at 11 PM, refuses your request for them to stop, his gun should be impounded, at least for the night.

One person's freedom ends at another person's freedom. So if they can do it in a way that doesn't put others at risk, and doesn't cause a noise problem at sensitive hours, then sure. So this will be hard to do in an urban setting, but usually feasible in a rural setting. If somebody is shooting their gun in a safe way but it's naptime for the baby and their neighbors are 50 feet away, it seems reasonable to ask them to shoot their gun at some other time or place.

    Depends.

Shooting in a manner that endangers people is illegal and should be.

Violating noise ordnances is illegal and should be.

Many municipalities have laws against the discharge of firearms in certain areas. That's reasonable.

If you're not violating any of these, then it shouldn't be an issue.

As long as the bullets don't leave their property and they aren't bothering people with noise at night, why not?

What is far funnier, is that in your sentence, "it is aways illegal to kill your neighbors, even if you are a several times deported illegal alien," what you see as the prominent, most important "data point," is the part about being an illegal alien, NOT the part about the illegality of killing your neighbors. While the media, btw, focused on the latter issue, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, saw it the same way as you, and only spoke about the national origins of both shooter and victims, without offering his sympathies to the families of the dead immigrants.

Here is a related article, about Governor Abbott attending none of the funerals, for the Uvalde victims.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.kx...t-attend-any-funerals-for-uvalde-victims/amp/

Nevertheless, he did extend his "deepest condolences," after the death of Justice Antonin Scalia.

That guy sure makes his priorities, manifestly clear.

did he attend Scalia's funeral-the funeral of a towering figure in American Jurisprudence?
Did you consider that perhaps he couldn't attend all the funerals so he chose none?or that attending one or more would detract away from the family's mourning?

Every state has different laws. Now it's been a while since I looked at Florida statutes on this subject and I'm going for memory here but if I remember correctly in Florida the law is you must have five acres and be so far away from any structure and your bullets cannot go on to a neighbor's property.

And of course you're going to want a suitable back stop and make sure all of your rounds impact it.

Now in the case about what we're talking about in Texas, everything I have read seems to indicate this guy was an illegal alien.

So this is a failure of law enforcement on several fronts. First of all when they found out the guy was an illegal they should have contacted the appropriate authorities to have the man deported for the fourth time evidently.

Also assuming that is true he should not have had a legal right to have a gun and he could have been arrested on that alone.

I don't have five acres and that's why I like to have a little air gun range in the yard to satisfy my desire to plink from time to time.

If I want to shoot the real deal I just go out to my friend's house about a mile down the road where it's perfectly legal to shoot all you want.

The bullets certainly do if you are firing into an appropriate backstop.

As relatively lenient as our gun laws are here in the USA, it is somewhat difficult to legally use a suppressor. Which is ironic because in European countries when they satisfy all the laws to own and possess and use a gun they make it pretty easy to use a suppressor. I would consider that being courteous to the neighbors.

The article, which you re-post the link for, here, does not give those reasons, you cite. Though you show a talent here, for political spin, I hadn't realized you possessed. Though your suggestion that Abbott just didn't want to play favorites, is ridiculous on its face-- he certainly could have given tribute to all the victims, at any single funeral-- it is your suggesting that the Governor was concerned that he might "detract away from the family's mourning," where you show your inventiveness. As you know-- and now that I've actually read the article, so do I-- it was the families who did not want Abbott there; probably because they hold him partly accountable, for his lax attitude about gun control.

first of all-this sounds like petty political whining. did he attend Scalia's funeral? doesnt' appear so and like it or not-Scalia is a major league super star of the supreme court.
