Does it bother you that Trump has attacked USA's most important ally since WW2?

The European Union. It was created to keep the peace in Europ since WW2 ended. Donald Trump has insisted the EU would break up and that it was a good idea for countries to leave the EU. This was also Putins goal. For the EU to break up.
And now EU members are furious.

This is one of the most important unions in the world.

I can clearly see what's happening. There is power in numbers. Trump thinks he can get better deals with every country if they are by themselves. He can bully them.
Trump is upsetting the world order based on greed. And if it helps Russia that's a bonus too.

I guess what I want to know is, who are the nihilists on here?

European countries were separate entities until just 24 years ago. Some of them were leaders of the entire world at various times in the past, as separate entities. Now the sky is falling because they might become independent again?

I can clearly see what's happening, as well. The far-left wants a one-world Government that complies with their Marxist ideology, and the threat of losing a collective chunk of countries that are all bound under one leadership scares them.

The level of special with all of this is insane. On the one hand you have the loud anti-globalists like Trump and the leaders of Brexit. On the other hand you have the president of China and a lot of fortune 500 company leaders.

It's a weird issue because there are winners and losers on both sides. The ultra rich stand to gain much more out globalization. They are the ones with the means to overcome the barriers to entry. However, likewise, smart investors can also gain from the upward movement of global companies. Then there is the opposition which knows that they can gain political power from the losers. I imagine that we'll wind up somewhere in the middle.

A global government could easily comply with a right wing policy as well.

Not when the majority of the world is impoverished and would gladly grab from those who had more than them if given the chance. That tends to favor the left.

Flat out wrong. Learn up about how it evolved into the EU.

The EU traces its origins from the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) and the European Economic Community (EEC), formed by the Inner Six countries in 1951 and 1958, respectively. The community and its successors have grown in size by the accession of new member states and in power by the addition of policy areas to its remit. The Maastricht Treaty established the European Union in 1993 and introduced European citizenship.[20] The latest major amendment to the constitutional basis of the EU, the Treaty of Lisbon, came into force in 2009.

    You can start with Wikipedia.

The world doesn't look the same today as it did back then, did that ever occur to you?

Globalization has made the westernized countries rich. Do you want to live like a third world peasent? By world standards the poorest American is one of the richest people in the world. You don't want to live in a world that is closed off and have to chop your own wood just to be able to survive the winter.

Not really. Europe needs to be able to stand on its own, it shouldn't need daddy USA to protect it anymore. If Europe doesn't want to fund their own defense, then that is Europe's problem. NATO in my opinion should have been done away with once the USSR broke apart and the Warsaw Pact disbanded. NATO should have said, mission accomplished and went the way of SEATO and CENTO.

Thanks for confirming that I was right in my claim that the European Union didn't exist until 1993, just like I said.

    - - - Updated - - -

Did it occur to you that the world looking differently doesn't automatically necessitate the existence of the EU?

Are you defending the EU? I thought you were claiming to be a nationalist up until recently?

    No you claimed this

"European countries were separate entities until just 24 years ago."

And if you were educated on the matter you wouldn't have stated that,

what was the purpose of NATO in the first place? to defend small free countries against domination by an agressive authoritarian country. has that changed? no: Have you heard about Putin and russia recently? NATO's raison d'etre is still the same.

The EU didn't exist prior to 1993. They had their own Governments and currencies before then. Didn't Wikipedia teach you that in your exhaustive research on the subject?

Well, divide and conquer is usually the method to control large countries or any country that poses a threat. Look to the ME. But with the EU it seems easier to control them, if they are kept in bondage to their Union. "They" especially want to keep Germany down, although it is called the engine of the EU, it could do very well on its own.

Read up on European Economic Community. European countries in that bloc hadn't been in total control of things for a long time.

I think the worst of all this is trump said he'd trust Putin and Merkel equally until he couldn't anymore.
On what level is Putin on equal footing to a major Us ally like Merkel. Jesus Christ.

I doubt they'd ever get their empire back, if that's what you're implying..
depending on what your goals are... Europe is a potential superpower, but only if unified. When competing with countries of the size of USA and China, the EU is in the same league, and because of its size can have better relations than individually small and insignificant countries ever could.

european countries can never be as influential as they were before if they go alone.. the rest of the world has become richer and stronger..
depending on your definition I still am one... still want less immigration and more flag-waving. but the nation-state simply isn't sufficient. There has to be something above it, a european super-state structure, that gives europe more influence in the world. A europe consisting of independent nation-states would just be a pathetic and insignificant continent.

that said, EU in current form is rather pathetic also.

They were not. But go on thinking as such. It's an American trait to think you know everything about the world when in fact you know nothing.

Merkel is a communist actively trying to destroy her own country. Trump is right not to trust her.

You're gonna call someone who took part in the revolution to free Berlin of its communist roots, a communist?

Jesus. What is in the water you're drinking?

No. at this point I'd rather see the worlds policemans torch be passed onto the French or Germans. I hold no illusions towards their success fulfilling that role, but no empathy towards their failure either.

It has created the greatest income and wealth disparity since the Gilded Age, which of course is why we have it. It hollows out a western economy as slave labor in poor nations is exploited. Globalization is the newest scheme to send income to the top. By bottoming out wages which the non elites depend on to survive. It devalues labor. You gotta look at the big picture. You know of course it was the elites, the banksters, MNCs that write these devices which structure globalization, in their own self interests. So, it is just another scheme to send the money to the top. Evidenced by the growth in income disparity. We call it neoliberalism. Capitalistic Virtual States take away more national sovereignty with each new free trade deal giving it to MNCs and the elites in the banking cabal. Oligarchy, fascism.

You mean NATO, created as a mutual defense pact designed primarily to counter the Soviet Union.
    Where is the Soviet Union?
