I tolerate both, but im def a cat person. Dogs are too emotionally dependent, and I just dont have the spare attention they need. When dogs dont get the attention they need, they either get depressed or they revert back to their wild state. Cats stay the same no matter what you do.
I like both. They are both sweet and lovable in their own ways. Most of what people are saying is not even true, so make sure you do your research to learn the true nature of cats and dogs before you go buying into what people say on the internets.
I have both but prefer dogs. Dogs and mankind have been together since before written history. Cats definitely have a place and their own unique characteristics, but if I had to pick one, it'd be a dog first. This picture is about 10 years old. The cat is from a kitten I rescued from certain death (long story):
They were good buds. Pancho was the best cat I ever had. No doubt he knew I'd saved his scrawny ass. Very affectionate.
I'm a dog guy all the way. Love the loyalty. My mother has two dogs (a yellow and a black labs). When we throw the stick for them to fetch, they bring it back together. They always know when our cars pull up as opposed to cars that are just passing by (I'm guessing by memorizing our exhaust system sounds). They are goofy but extremely intelligent.
Love 'em both, but cats fit me better. Independent, don't need constant attention, and they bring me presents. Well, at least half a present, just sometimes, you don't know which half you've received.....
One of our cats follows me around town like a dog. He even waits for me while Im inside the convenience store or the post office. ...he follows other people that walk by the house too, but he always comes back home.
They're alright. I my family, in my life at least, we've pretty much raised cats. But, any animal that loves, depends and lives with you, is alright.
I go with progressives on this one and prefer dog-cats or cat-dogs. The downside: They have been having huge litter-box issues; who goes outside and who gets to use the inside box.
Cats, because they don't make that weird sound called barking. It's a seriously weird sound when you think about it?
As seriously weird as mewling at the window or door when they want in? BTW, when someone tries to break in, your "watch cat" is going to head under the porch and remain silent.
Good. I dont want my cat blocking my line of fire The freakin dog barks at everything and nothing. It could be an intruder, a passerby, a squirrel, or he just might be bored. Worthless.
He was a rescue. He was begging for food at our kids elementary every day for a week. Real skinny. We brought him home, posted pics at HumSoc and 'lost pet' websites but no one claimed. One of the best cats we've ever had.
Good call on the cat. A matter of training on the dog. FWIW, I used to have a "watch goose". Her different types of squawking told me if there was danger or just general noise making. One night an owl attacked one of my ducks and she went into full alarm status. Knowing something was wrong, I immediately went to outside just in time to save the duck the owl had pinned to the ground and was trying to kill.
Your dog will lay on the couch, and watch TV with you. Your cat will lay on the TV, uninterested in why everyone is looking at him. I'm an animal person. I love 'em all. I have dogs, cats, birds, horses, mules, donkeys. My favorite pets in the world, if I had to pick just one, are my parrots. I'd give em all up for my parrots.
Cat person here. Like all cats. Like a few, special dogs but, hardly all dogs. Until my last 3 cats, my cats usually passed away around age 13. Recently, the third of 3 cats passed away over age 17. When I was down to one geriatric cat, I was not going to introduce a new one. After she passed I got 2. One is Orange/White Tuxedo (male) and big, born March 24, and one is a tiny gray tabby (female), born June 1. They get along great but, I look forward to them being less of a kitten. When I was a kid, cats were a girls pet and boys had dogs. Today, most cat owners are men. Times change.
How about three that live very quietly together. Two dogs and one cat. The cat had to teach the two dogs how to behave and into the daily routine.
