Because both parties are interested in pursuing this, something just might happen. I wouldn't bet the rent money, but some heavyweight economists (among others) have been arguing for years we are in a new Robber Baron era, and that it needs to be stopped.

If Liz Warren was about to become prez, you could add the 'too big to fail' banks to that list.

I was ready to start a thread but you beat me to it. The Justice dept. is starting an antitrust investigation also into: Facebook, Apple and Amazon - FINALLY! Will it continue if the Democrats win? I doubt it, even though the Justice dept. is independent of Congress and the President. They will find some kind of obstruction through some new legislation, and the American people will never know what's going on - thanks to the MSM.

I recall in the last election, that Google was considered the Democrat's best propaganda asset, since they relegated any news that went against their agenda to the second and third page - no matter how current it was.

The Justice Dept. better get after Wikipedia also. According to them, the allegations against Joe Biden's son have already been debunked and are nothing more than a slander campaign by Donald Trump.

Hmmm! And here I thought it was Russia's doing. Oh that's right I forgot, Trump and Putin work in unison - or at least according to Adam Schiff.

    ADAM SCHIFF

He has to play to make his day.
So pay no heed to what he says,
for lying cheating is his game.

But you all know that he's insane,
so aren't you the ones to blame?
For simple logic proves him wrong,
so shouldn't he be where he belongs?

Adam Schiff will somehow try to connect this anti trust suit to Russians working for ty Trump campaign.

We certainly need more diversity of ideas in the media. We don’t need big media / tech organizations eliminating access to information they disapprove of politically.

I think most of the mainstream media will lean toward the Google side here. After all, along with google they have chosen sides politically and they benefit from silencing opposing views.

If Biden wins the election this suit will be dropped.

We no longer have a free press. We have an ideologically driven press. A single minded ideology.

I have tried lots of search engines over the decades.
    Google is best!
    Yahoo search is a stinker.
    DuckDuckgo, is that still around?

    Google remains "best"
    Being the best a crime?

Might be considering they pay off companies to install it in their cellphones, etc. in exchange for which they can extort billions more a year from people wanting to do online ads.

I don't see where that is a crime

as long as someone may install an alternative

    such as Yahoo search.

Not everything illegal is criminal. When they control over 90% of searches in the US, they control the market. With them prioritizing or downgrading certain sites, they are welding a tremendous amount of power especially when they are taking all your information and selling you to advertisers which gives them downstream advantages in the ad games. I personally don't care about their dominance here and there, but they need to be stripped of their ownership of youtube, etc.

    @Chrizton

    The answer is "competition".

Some one offer a better search engine.
Same for a video upload site.

Dismantling The News Media conglomerates would
be so much more meaningful on our lives.

    Blah blah blah...

    Here's the delta:
MS embedded IE in Windows and made it difficult for other browser vendors take advantage of Windows browser integration. This is little more than what MS had been doing for 15 years as a continuation of it's unofficial "It ain't done till Lotus won't run" policies.

They might get Google to give up Chrome OS and Android but the government will have a HELL of a time with monopoly of the search engine:

    1. Who is forced to use google? There are many search engines available.
    2. Who is forced to buy advertisement on google?
    3. Google makes money by selling ads. Is the government willing to tell TV, Print, and other media providers that advertising is now illegal?

    This case is a loser.

    Excuse ne?

Aren't YOU the one supporting the government's use of force to control what a private company allows to be displayed on their platform?

    Get your mirror out bucko!

    This from Wall St Journal
"A group of 11 state attorneys general, all Republicans, have joined the Justice Department’s case."

    That's odd to me.

If it is a "loser" then we are in for big troubles
    WSJ today
“Google achieved some success in its early years, and no one begrudges that,”
Deputy U.S. Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen said. “If the government does not
enforce its antitrust laws to enable competition, we could lose the next wave of
innovation. If that happens, Americans may never get to see the next Google.”

That the Republicans are doing anti-trust. Seems like this would be a Democrat thing.
But then, I am no American.

It certainly doesn’t seem odd to me. I’m not sure why you would believe Republicans are against anti trust issues.

Not so much "against" but not champing at the bit like I would expect the Democrats
to be doing. Why aren't the Democrats involved in this suite?

The Democrats aren’t involved for two reasons. First, google is on their team. The speech they are editing out is critical of liberalism and or liberal pols.

Second the “Trump justice department” brought the suit.
