Trump said that Blagojevich was prosecuted by “the same people, Comey, Fitzpatrick, the same group” that prosecuted him, and acknowledged that even though the governor was a Democrat, he deserved release from prison. “Very far from his children, they’re growing older. They’re going to high school now. They rarely get to see their father outside of an orange uniform,” Trump said. “I saw that, and I did commute his sentence.”

The president has frequently discussed the idea of a pardon for Blagojevich, as he views the 14-year penalty as too harsh just for “being stupid” by discussing something that “many other politicians say.”

7 years in jail is a long time-14 years is certainly excessive.

Trump has offered an olive branch to a top Dem.

It will be interesting to see if the former Governor has any inside knowledge of corruption in Chicago politics-around the time Obama was a senator there.

The President is taking on criminal justice reforms head on. It’s very much needed

It will be interesting to see what Blago does now. His side burned him pretty bad. Can't see him betraying his party though. They play rough down that way...

    *LOL*

Yes, because what we really need is to release corrupt elected officials from prison.

It will set us all free. And stuff.

What top Dem got an olive branch??

Illinois R's are rightly pissed off. The man was accepting bribes..... Ohhh.... I get it now....

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/face-public-corruption-illinois-republicans-212340010.html

Hard to fight that "Face of Public Corruption" label.... Although the current one just commuted the last one...

The Obama admin started with corruption. There is a reason obama wanted him buried and fought the subpena against him

There are a lot of non-violent drug offenders and non-violent three-strike offenders facing life in prison. Don’t they deserve to be released?

There's no way this was justified or called for. No way it can be 'white-washed' in any way. It stinks to high heaven! Blago was found guilty and duly sentenced by a court of law. Trump should not (NOT) have done this, but, as president, he has the right.

He's probably thinking "Oh great. Decision of a lifetime. Thank Trump and be deemed a traitor and commit suicide by hacking my arms off and then shooting myself, or call Trump a racist and tell him I didn't need his help."

Either decision will help Trump. This is how Trump always wins.

Thousands have been. Under the Federal system three strike laws take affect only after at least one violent felony

Don't need any of that, do we... Not unless a democrat can get the credit. Problem is, obama released a few prisoners, but he released murderers that went back to the people that wronged them and killed those people. When Trump has someone released, it's someone who served their time for petty crimes. Know the difference. Learn it. Live it.

If you recall, he was given 2 trials.

The second was to increase his sentence.

Him being imprisoned does not mean other corrupt dems aren't doing what they do right now.

Besides, Top Dems consistently seek to release prisoners early.

God bless Mr. Trump! The only thing left is to expunge all of the Weiner records and buy him a new 5G EyeBone with Ultra 4K and the Dems will finally see him for the loving President he really is!

These are the same Chicago pols who didn't want to prosecute Jesse Smollet, right?

I think it was a good move by Trump, for Pete's sake, the average rape sentence is only 4.5 years.

I know a democrat governor would never commute a Republican-that much is certain.

Interestingly, Blago's wife is the daughter of a long time Chicago Alderman.

Sounds like that family might know a thing or two about democrat corruption.

    Lets find out together.

Damn, that Bonespurs fella sure loves fightin' corruption!

I wonder if they'll form a super hero team called "Corruption Fighters" and rid the planet of corruption, starting in Ukraine!

I can't excuse him pardoning Debartolo. That man is pure evil.

All you have to do is look at the team he owned.

Already being bashed by the Illinois GOP.
Who knew draining the swamp actually meant letting the swamp out of prison early.
Who knew the gop platform is that people who abuse their office are being treated too harshly lmao
