Happy he pulled back. Sad to see he still thinks we are dumb enough to believe he made the suggestion for the good of the country. No one is that dumb. Not even the most brainwashed of his cultists.

More importantly it has top class security having been used for years for the purposes of hosting foreign dignitaries

Trump probably does not want to use it because he can’t cheat his way around the golf course like he can at one of his resorts

Huh? You must be confusing doing things at cost with doing things yourself. They have nothing in common sunshine, totally different and unrelated things lol

Do you think Trump needs to host this summit and shut down his entire extremely popular, extremely expensive, always filled to capacity resort to make a profit?

Something tells me i won't get a direct answer to this simple question... at best some strawman gibberish about him not cleaning the rooms himself. Duh

And now a doze of reality:

In a disclosure form filed Thursday with the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, Trump reported income of $76 million from the Trump National Doral property in 2018, up just slightly from $75 million in 2017.
    https://www.miamiherald.com/news/business/tourism-cruises/article230477749.html#storylink=cpy

Trump Doral #1 and the most expensive hotel in Doral according to TripAdvisor
    https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g680222-Doral_Florida-Hotels.html

So the libs and fake news have essentially handed Trump several million dollars by turning down his offer to work for free LOL

You do understand the difference between the average daily rate and the current daily rate, yes?

Also, from your source, the resort went from $116M in 2016 to $76M in 2018 — how you see that as good news is interesting.

How do you get that not allowing him to illegally profit off of the G7 meetings have “essentially handed him several million dollars”?

Now that we have established that the property is hugely profitable and hugely popular (numero uno en Doral ;) ):

Not letting Trump to use his hugely profitable property on entirely non-profit at cost basis is like forcing him to make a few millions in profits he was willing to give up. Funny how this leftist temper tantrum has worked out, isn't it? Lol

If competitors are classified as the holiday inn — if it is from other high end resorts it isn’t.
Both of our sources indicated this.

So speculative assumption? They averaged a sub 60% occupancy rate and this would have been during the low period of the year.
If you believe he was going to do this at no cost then you probably believe he is going to release his tax returns any day now.

Tell me, which is the larger number, 116 or 76?

You're splitting hairs and quibbling over minor inconsequential things trying to obfuscate the undeniable truth:

    1. The property is very profitable

    2. Trump was willing to use it on non-profit at cost basis.

    3. The left threw a temper tantrum and forced Trump to use it for profit and rake in a few more million he was willing to forfeit.

    Any disagreement with this?

No, I'm having difficulty understanding the reasons YOU gave.

I am genuinely curious as to why he walked this one back. He has faced a lot of opposition throughout his term, but hasn't reversed a position because of blowback. So why now?

He makes a salary by law and gives it away after living for free at the White House.

Those "extremely popular" resorts have cost him $800 million since he became President.

    His companies aren't doing well.

This is the argument the Trumpsters use to show that he didn't become President to make money..... whereas for him it was precisely his objective.

Because his name has become toxic to business, almost all the buildings he owns outside and many inside the US have removed the name "Trump" from their facade.

Let me correct another confusion of yours, he is making a little less than he did before becoming president is very different from your bogus "his companies aren't doing well" claim.

His companies are very profitable and your inability to address my simple question speaks for itself. The fact remains, he was willing to sacrifice the profit from his property but the libs threw a temper tantrum and didn't let him lol

Yeah right, your altruistic version of Trump doesn't match the reality Trump. Your notion that he is doing everything for the betterment of the general public is straight out BS.

Any other govt official that would give themselves contract work would be fired at a minimum. The reality is Trump hides his finances, so any suggestion he is doing anything for others is speculation at best.

Dude, what part of "the property is very profitable, he doesn't need all this ****, hysteria, scrutiny to make a profit, he already does" don't you understand? Lol

Use some common sense for once, jeez. You may even like it lol

The profitability has no bearing on the law. This incident can't be anymore pathetic of Trump's supporters disposition. It seems the law no longer matters, only what Trump stated.

How ironic, since Republicans always claimed Obama was a Messiah, yet Trump supporters are bending backwards to accommodate Trump's discretions, and hang on every word. That is pathological.

The truth that it has a low occupancy rate and would have profited off of this event in free publicity alone — and likely directly profited? Nothing you have said has shown any difference. And a resort losing 71% of it’s net operating profit in just two years isn’t splitting hairs & definitely isn’t inconsequential.

Not verses it’s competition — while I would love to have an asset that generated $4M a year I would be questioning what is going on if it profited $14M in prior years. It is verses the holiday inn down the road from the resort though so there’s that I guess.

No, trump said he was willing to do this — there is zero evidence that he actually would have actually honored this; and even that is irrelevant as it is unconstitutional for him to do what he was wanting.

You still haven’t demonstrated how he is going to make a few million more by not hosting an international meeting of world leaders.
The free publicity alone would have been worth several million and it would have bumped up the abysmal occupancy numbers.

Also, this wasn’t just the left — even some on the right left the plantation to ask wtf is going on here...

    Every word

You have no idea if the property is profitable during the period in question. If it makes a loss in June, him offering to do it "at cost" means he will be better off.

You also have no idea what he meant by "at cost". He could have easily made a number of capital improvements and charged that cost to the taxpayer, saying it was just "at cost". Although the capital improvements would have a lasting effect on the property, so he would benefit.

His offer to do it "at cost" isn't worth anything, yet you Trumpsters repeat it as if it has a concrete meaning. It doesn't.

An ethical president would have made it clear, from the outset of his presidency, that his businesses would not accept any taxpayer money - or money from foreign governments - while he was president.

But a border wall would be. Walls don't stop boats and planes.

True but they stop cars, trucks and people on the ground. It’s why walls have been used since the beginning of time as a form of defense

Nonsense, as long as it's at cost and makes no profit there is no law disallowing the use of the property. That you have failed to quote a law allegedly broken by Trump's proposal is telling. You libs make up non existing laws as you go lol

It was legal, Trump was to lose his profit so the libs stopped him and forced him to make extra millions, too funny, you can't make this up
