'Friend of mine, great friend of mine', is verbalizing respect for the deceased no matter how clumsy it may come across.

 

Doesn't take much to distract you guys with a less than shiny object as long as it involves the name "Trump." He mentioned Verde and Pavarotti before saying "friend of mine, great friend of mine." There was absolutely nothing past, present, or future tense about that. He was saying Pavarotti and he were great friends. Too funny how you sharks lurk around and never find anything significant. Hopefully the night opinion shows make fun of this, too, because doing it all through 2015 and 2016 worked so well.

 

Because he did not know that he was dead. He's a liar, plain and simple and is being true to his nature. Everything Trump says must be spun by his fans to give it some type of credence.

Yeah...great buddies...I wonder if he attended the funeral he did not know happened as well.

Maybe it's n age thing, IDK, but I too, generally refer to passed friends in the same way.

I mean in a more private setting, I'll usually elaborate bringing up my emotions or whatever, regarding their passing.

 

Extreme partisans react to even the slightest stimulus. They inevitably embrace a reactionary approach to politics.

 

They go right past a somewhat legitimate beef, that Trump's comments about dead Italians are patronizing and hamhanded (I don't know enough to agree with that, but at least it's arguable)...

... and straight to the lie... straight to the most far-fetched BS they can distort out of facts that don't quiiiite fit their narrative, but have to be stretched to make it.

Why do they do this over and over? And how does it make them lose over and over?

Quite simple, pathological liars (Cluster B PDs) do this kind of thing, they overreach in their lying to see if they can get away with it, adding embellishment until they push just far enough past the truth that they have left themselves vulnerable. Serial killers who subconsciously wish to get caught do the same thing. They leave tells.

In this case the "tell" is the fact that THERE IS NO VERB IN THE STATEMENT, no way to assign ANY tense, let alone past or present.

So that's how the pathology spins out, and if today it's this minutiae of a lie, tomorrow it will be a different lie.

As far as how they end up LOSING AND LOSING because of it, people spot their tells. Everyone has been lied to in life, and many have been lied to by the deranged and disordered at some point. Their tells become obvious and a HUGE TURN OFF. People sense the tell innately when they keep looking for the "IS" "WHERE'S THE F-ING IS??" and when they don't find it, they start to get POd... "just another case of lying media, another conjob, just another lying leftist." And they remember stuff like this when they go to the polls.

It's possible their politics didn't mesh (especially now) and I'm always amazed when adults can still be friends even when they disagree on something.

Pav's widow didn't want Trump to play the aria because she claims Pav's politics weren't the same as Trumps.

Trump wasn't a politician ten years ago and Pav didn't discuss politics, period.
