Don't Be a Sucker! is a short film produced by the United States War Department in 1943 and re-released in 1947. It has anti-racist and anti-fascist themes. The film was made to make the case for the desegregation of the United States armed forces. In August of 2017, the short film resurfaced on the internet following the aftermath of the deadly 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Plot
An American who has been listening to a racist and bigoted rabble-rouser is warned off by a naturalized Hungarianimmigrant, who explains to him how racist and bigoted demagogy allowed the Nazis to rise to power in Germany, and warns Americans not to fall for similar demagogy propagated by American racists and bigots.





In 1947, the U.S. War Department under the FDR Democrats released "Don't Be a Sucker" to illustrate how Americans could lose their country if they give power to hatred. This is a message that the patriots of that party have conveyed for many decades. But when the Republicans emerged in power, this message has been lost and society has become more and more divided ever since. The recent events in Virginia prove the point - fascism, hatred, treason, social division, and societal degeneration are all hallmarks of the elitist Republicans who promote war in order to enrich the wealthy at a tremendous cost to the poor and middle class of this great country. If this trend continues, you can expect matters to get even worse.

The solution to all that, however, is readily available. And it can easily be found in the reforms made by FDR and his many patriotic disciples. History clearly shows that they worked and could just as easily work today given the opportunity.

The choice is yours - reform and success or Trumpism and degeneration.

They see these right wing evils as totally against the values fought for by the USA and by the allies during WW II and in the post war era. This is a valid point but one dismissed by the far right because of its unpatriotic agenda.

 

Oh but it's not another issue, those who cowardly fail to condemn violence, racism and fascism of radical extremist left like ANTIFA, BLM etc, are in no position to throw stones, especially at people like our president and his supporters who unequivocally condemn ALL violence, on both sides of the political extreme.

That film is BRILLIANT!! People should watch and learn from it. If one is somehow against what that film is communicating... it is fair to say that only hatred and violence will track with them.

 

Great video! Many of Trump's marks will go to their grave saying "That's Germany, this is America, and Trump isn't Hitler. He's not blaming the Jews, he's blaming the Mexicans and the Muslims! Etc., ...and duh, Trump doesn't even have a mustache!" But the video is worth sharing for the benefit of wiser people.

I think it'd be great to compile a short list of the big signs of Trump's rising autocracy, because it can be hard to keep history in mind when being bombarded by the latest lies, easy to look at each sign in a vacuum of the present, and easy to give him the benefit of the doubt that he's long ago given up any right to. What he's doing that Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, etc. also did, quotes to demonstrate, and how each sign undermines democracy in and of itself.
