LOS ANGELES – A 7-year-old boy riding a motorized bike was hit and killed by an ice cream truck in South Los Angeles and residents then attacked the driver, authorities said.

The truck struck the child shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday, and he later died at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, said Officer Nuria Venegas, a Los Angeles police spokeswoman.

"I walked outside and he was on the ground, bleeding," Karen Black, who lives in the neighborhood, told KCAL-TV. "I just tried to comfort the family, you know, because they were hollering and screaming."

The child had been riding alongside the ice cream truck, and the collision was an accident, police said.

The crowd then attacked the driver, but he only received bruises, Venegas said. The driver told police that bricks were thrown at his truck and someone threatened him with a knife.

The driver will not be charged, officials said, but detectives were looking for those who attacked him.

When a child dies I expect some emotions to boil over.

 

What was a 7 year old doing riding on the street, in the dark on a motorized bike?

 

Parents fail to properly supervise their young child and then blame it on the truck driver. It took place in South LA where it is mostly made up of Mexicans and Blacks. Uncontrollable emotions tend to run high in those communities.

 

Some emotions, like crying parents and neighbors questioning the driver. But a beating and a threat with a knife?! Let's see if those good neighborly folks come forward and tell the cops who were involved with the beating of the driver. My guess is zero will come forward.

 

Yeah, this NEVER would have happened in a predominantly white community. The driver would have been hoisted on the parent's shoulders with a bronze statue in the city park erected as a memorial!

 

It didn't happen in a white community. Send me a link when the same type of animal behavior takes place in a predominantly white community.

I'm sure white children are occassionally struck and killed on neighborhood streets, due to their own carelessness. Can you find an example of a mob of whites beating the driver?

By the police, you mean? They beat and shoot whites too when they need to.

So, no examples of whites beating drivers who accidentally run over white children, then?

 

One example that we don't know the story to, only one side's possibly biased account. The last two incidents (furguson, MO and Trayvon Martin) were thugs.

I see the obvious mistake the black man made in the link you provided though. He was failing to show his hands during the entire encounter. You don't do that around cops and has darwin award written all over it.

Denver police are notorious for beating whites and blacks.

There is no evidence that Martin was anything resembling a thug (a racially charge term btw that is SELDOM applied to white kids).

Is there a particular reason you're deflecting? You were insinuating that this kind of things happens in predominantly white areas, so I asked you to provide an example. Can you do that?

 

They don't need to be in the air. But at least keep them out of your pockets and out in the open so it is obvious you are not trying to reach for anything. This is common sense stuff.

 

Respect for authority isn't common sense amongst that demographic. They are taught at a young age to resist it.

 

Forget what you are taught. I mean regardless of what your parents told you about our men and women in law enforcement, when the man with a gun and a badge has something to say to you you act right. For me it's just a survival instinct.
