Star golfer Dustin Johnson was reportedly paid "around" $125 million to join the Saudi Arabia-backed LIV Golf league, according to James Corrigan and Tom Morgan of the Telegraph (h/t Ryan Glasspiegel of the New York Post). https://bleacherreport.com/articles...-contract-worth-about-125m-to-join-liv-series For reference, Tiger Woods (the #1 All-Time PGA Money Leader) made just over $120M. DJ gets an upfront one-time payment to join LIV, that is more than Tiger made in his entire career. Crazy money those Saudis are throwing around.
Its a tough call for the golfers. Someone like DJ is being paid more to join than, likely, he would earn in his career - so who could blame him? Calls on disloyalty to the PGA is out of line in my view, as people change 'jobs' all the time. Loyalty is a fine thing, but not if it will stop you from making a lot of money. On the other hand, we have what Michelson was talking about - the brutality of the Saudis. I'm sure some would see defecting golfers as somehow supporting that regime.
