The U.S. could have won Vietnam in two weeks if it wanted to. But the clowns in Washington tried to do it cheaply. They gave it minimal effort and kept sending in the kids to get killed.

Either go into a war to eradicate the enemy, or don't go in at all. Don't fight "proportionately" to keep the war going for years.

Yes, of course, we could have turned Vietnam into a glowing sea of glass for the next 10,000 years BUT that would have killed all the people we were supposedly there to liberate AND brought us smack dab up against Leonid Brezhnev, who SAID that he would not see nations under his control bullied, even if it meant "the destruction of the WHOLE WORLD" (his emphasis) We didn't know then and we still don't if that was all bullshit, and considering that guessing wrong meant we would be living in the world of The Book of Eli or A Canticle for Leibowitz, not many people wanted to find out.

People forget that the Cold War was still fully on and it was a different world back then. Even supposedly knowledgeable people like Ken Burns criticize Johnson for "micromanaging" the war but he was walking on eggshells over the most unspeakable abyss the world has ever realistically faced

    Good points.

I think the Soviets would have backed down, but I don't know that.

US debt now is on the level of US GDP, it was lower before, and there was a time, when it was higher. See, if the amount of debt would be = with GDP, than with dollars you could by only goods and services, wich was produced within the year. But where is second-hand market than, shadow economy and international trade? It does not work as you think...

FED can not by US bounds from US government, it's against the law. FED buys or sells bounds in secondary market to increase or decrease money amount in economy. But this is not the only tool for the monetary policy.

I didn’t say that the money supply = GDP. I said the debt and money supply are tied. Look up total USD in circulation (real and digital) and compare to total outstanding debt. Numbers are almost equal. New money is created daily with interest on loans and the Fed needs to accommodate the demand. The growth of the economy does influence the money supply. Many countries experience inflation when economy goes down, in the US it seems to be opposite - did you notice deflation during the housing collapse recession?
Anyway, the process that I described is like the skeleton of what the Fed does. There are many layers of additional complexities added on the top.
Yet still, as I said, the dollar cannot exist without debt. That’s a fact. So, when someone keeps blabbering about the US debt all they do is show how ignorant they are.

I have many times in this forum exposed the drivel about Katyn, but regularly there is someone who continues to write nonsense about the fact that the Russians killed the Poles. I wonder, some argue that the Russians killed the Poles is this because feeble-mindedness? Or inattention?

    Again.

The general criminal-legal assessment of the Katyn massacre was given by the International Military Tribunal. The procedural decision of the IMT of February 14, 1946, the guilt of Nazi Germany in the Katyn massacre was established as the so-called "legal fact generating legal consequences", and the October 1, 1946 conviction of the IMT established personal guilt in organizing the Katyn crime of the defendants Hermann Goering and Alfred Jodl (the Katyn episode was not incriminated to the remaining defendants).
In addition, the guilt of Nazi Germany in the Katyn massacre was established as a "legal fact generating legal consequences" by the verdict of the Third Supreme People's Court in Sofia on February 28, 1945 and the verdict of the Nuremberg Military Tribunal of April 10, 1948, on the "Ninth Follow- Nuremberg Trial "(" The People of the USA vs. Otto Ohlendorf "Trial" "or" The Case of Einsatzgruppen "). The brigadenführer SS Erich Naumann was personally recognized guilty of the shooting of the Katyn massacre by the verdict of the Nuremberg Military Tribunal of April 10, 1948.
The civil-law consequences of the Katyn massacre were the subject of legal proceedings in several thousands of civil processes to establish facts of legal significance that were held in Poland in the post-war period. In all these trials, the Polish courts used the legal fact of the guilt of Nazi Germany in the Katyn massacre, established by the International Military Tribunal, as well as the date of the Katyn massacre "September 1941" as the legal basis for adjudicating their judgments.
The latest court decision on the Katyn case to date is the decision of the Fifth Section of the European Court of Human Rights on April 16, 2012, confirmed on October 21, 2013 by the Grand Chamber of the ECHR. Where the Poles were denied a lawsuit against Russia.

But you keep on writing nonsense. By the way, attempts to falsify the Katyn massacre began at the height of the "cold war", in 1951-52. The first falsifications of the Katyn case began with the US commission of Madden.

The rest of the nonsense about the Gulag, "bloody Stalin" and other nonsense I will not even consider.
I will add just that the myths about the GULAG launched real idiots. Gulag is an abbreviation of the "General (Glavnoe) Directorate (Upravlenie) of Camps (Lagerey)". Correctly write "GULag". In other words, this is the Ministry of Justice. Therefore, to speak - sat in the "GULag" can only be an idiot. It's like saying - he sat in the "Ministry of Justice".

But the feeble-mindedness imbeciles continue to quote the propaganda of the Western media.

    Thats simply not true:

    https://www.rferl.org/a/Russian_And...1.html?x=1&contenttype=1#relatedInfoContainer

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and his Polish counterpart, Donald Tusk, are due to attend a memorial ceremony in the village of Katyn honoring the more than 20,000 officers, policemen, and intellectuals who were killed on Soviet leader Josef Stalin's orders during World War II.

The two men will also pay tribute to Soviet victims of the Stalinist terror.

    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-11845315
Russia's lower house of parliament has condemned Joseph Stalin by name for the mass execution of Poles at Katyn during World War II.

The Duma declared that the Soviet dictator and other Soviet officials had ordered the "Katyn crime" in 1940.

So both russian president as parliament aknowledge it was russians that did this, but you still deny ?

    FYI:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8649435.stm

Russia's state archive has published formerly top secret Soviet-era documents on the April 1940 Katyn massacre on its website.

They include a key letter to then Soviet leader Joseph Stalin from secret police (NKVD) chief Lavrenty Beria, dated 5 March 1940 and marked "Top Secret".

Some 22,000 members of the Polish elite were killed by Soviet forces, and for decades the USSR claimed that it was the work of Nazi Germany. Russia gave the documents to Poland in 1992.

Here are excerpts from the Beria letter:

    "To Comrade Stalin:

In prisoner-of-war camps run by the USSR NKVD and in prisons in western Ukraine and Belorussia there is currently a large number of former Polish army officers, former officials of the Polish police and intelligence services, members of Polish nationalist counter-revolutionary parties, members of unmasked rebel counter-revolutionary organisations, defectors and others. They are all sworn enemies of Soviet power, filled with hatred towards the Soviet system.

The POW officers and police in the camps are trying to continue counter-revolutionary work and are engaged in anti-Soviet agitation. Each of them is just waiting for liberation so as to actively join the struggle against Soviet power….

Beria, a Georgian like Stalin, was notorious for enforcing a reign of terror
In total in the prisoner-of-war camps (not counting soldiers and non-commissioned officers) there are 14,736 former officers, government officials, landowners, policemen, military police, jailers, settlers and spies. More than 97% are of Polish nationality…

In total the prisons of western Ukraine and Belorussia contain 18,632 detainees (of whom 10,685 are Poles)...

Based on the fact that all of them are steadfast incorrigible enemies of Soviet power, the USSR NKVD deems it essential:

    I. To propose that the USSR NKVD: [underlined - ed]

    Give special consideration to

    1) the cases of 14,700 people remaining in the prisoner-of-war camps - former Polish army officers, government officials, landowners, policemen, intelligence agents, military policemen, settlers and jailers,

    2) and also the cases of those arrested and remaining in prisons in the western districts of Ukraine and Belorussia, totalling 11,000 - members of various counter-revolutionary spy and sabotage organisations, former landowners, factory owners, former Polish army officers, government officials and defectors -

Imposing on them the sentence of capital punishment - execution by shooting.

II. The cases are to be handled without the convicts being summoned and without revealing the charges; with no statements concerning the conclusion of the investigation and the bills of indictment given to them…."

[The letter is signed "L. Beria" in blue pencil, under the title USSR People's Commissar for Internal Affairs.

The first page of the letter bears the word Za - "in favour" - scrawled in blue pencil with the signatures of then Soviet leader Joseph Stalin and of Politburo members K. Voroshilov and A. Mikoyan, along with V. Molotov in ordinary pencil. In the margin are the names Kalinin and Kaganovich - also aides to Stalin - added in blue ink, and also with the word za.]

Keep using PPP if it makes you feel better. As I said before, try buying a barrel of oil from OPEC at a discount because the Rupee is devalued.

Yes, even after USSR government at the end of the 80ties and in beginning of the 90 unclassified documents, wich shows that guilt lies on USSR, for these people all are fake. As i already told, nazi and soviet regimes were criminal regimes, on bought lies guilt for the death of the millions innocent people. But there is a significant difference - germans realize, that nazi regime was a criminal regime, while russians justify or denie crimes of the soviet regime, and this can bought them to Recidiv.

I will because it measures what you can actually buy.
That's the point of using PPP to measure GDP.

Ah, the usual excuse to stop people from leaving the USSR police state. What a horrible hell hole it was.

Except that it’s not. That’s why developing economies get a boost from PPP. They can’t afford to import anything.

PPP is only useful in per capita metrics, not aggregate.

Ahahaha .... :roflol::roflol::roflol:Your information is outdated. Even the international court recognized these documents as falsification. (I mean the letter of Comrade Beria.) By the way, this is one of the reasons why the Poles were denied a lawsuit against Russia.:roflol::roflol::roflol:

Show these documents. Screenshot for example. Or a link to the archive. If you can not do this, you are lying.

I will show you how you can do this. For example. Screenshot. Memorandum for Khrushchev about the number of convicted and shot in the USSR from 1921 to 1956.

    Transfer.

    Secret.

    To Comrade Khrushchev

In connection with the request ... your instruction .... etc .....

    report:

    For the period from 1921 to the present (1956) ... was convicted ... 3 777 380 people.
    Including:

    Execution - 642 980 people
To the content in camps and prisons from 25 years and below - 2 369 220 people
Sent from cities in deportation - 765,180 people

Note. The number of convicts in the USSR. Its are 14 republics (Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan .... the Baltic (three republics) ... etc.).

However, you can continue to write nonsense about "Stalin Teran" "Gulag" and other nonsense. Maybe it's easier for you to live. The ancients did not in vain speak - knowledge multiplies sadness. Apparently that's why you hide your head in the sand.

    From your source:
So, yes, it’s cheaper for average Russian to get a haircut, or buy locally grown potatoes, but when it comes to things that you import your PPP immediately goes to trash. And Russia produces virtually nothing of good quality that is in high demand elsewhere. They only produce raw materials.
And ask any Russian troll how much they pay for gasoline. Those are not PPP prices. :)

I've tried explaining it. PPP measures cost rather than what is spent. It sounds great on paper until you realize you can't afford to buy anything.

As my source pointed out, there are efforts to adjust for quality. PPP is a better than the alternative.
