Electric cars will waste lots and lots of water if they catch fire

And every vehicle will have to have an agreed upon by the manufacturers battery that must fit every car not matter it's use. How are you going to get them all to design their products around the one battery IF you could even get them to all agree to one design. Then the fact they don't just pop in and pop out else they pop out in a crash. Ask your local car dealer what is the labor cost to replace the battery in an EV.

GM’s Chevy Bolt Recall Casts Shadow Over EV Push
The $1.8 billion recall, among GM’s costliest ever, underscores the difficulty, expense of fixing defective electric-vehicle batteries

...The safety problems underscore the risks for traditional auto makers as many take a sharp turn toward electric vehicles. The high cost of energy-dense lithium-ion battery cells means replacement expenses can spiral when defects occur. Ford Motor Co. , Hyundai Motor Co. and other car companies have been hit with huge costs to fix relatively small numbers of electric cars.....

....GM has confirmed 10 fires linked to the problem and is aware of some complaints of smoke inhalation but no deaths. It is advising owners to avoid fully charging their cars and warning them to not charge them in their garages.

“I am experiencing problems sleeping at night, due to the fact that I have a potential fire risk sitting outside of my home,” one Bolt owner wrote to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in a complaint published on the agency’s website.

..“We’re not going to begin the recall repairs in vehicles until we’re confident that LG is building defect-free products for us,” he said. “We’re working around the clock to get to that point.”

WHAT, so owners are desperate for range and now they can't fully charge them?? And you have to leave it on the street while you do so in case it catches on fire??? And they don't have a fix, they have to wait for LG to solve the problem???

And then don't you just love this attempt to put lip-stick on this pig, I bet the investors just love this......

"“The lessons learned from this entire experience are really going to benefit the industry and the importance of the manufacturing processes,” GM Chief Executive Mary Barra told Bloomberg TV last week."

    :roflol:

Wonder how all the people in South Louisiana who drive EV's made out in the evacuations in the muggy hot and rainy weather where they had to run their wipers and lights but better not turn on the AC while trying to make through all that traffic for six hours.

The irony is, you have to use a co2 fire extinguisher for an electrical fire.

    Very good point.

Some years ago cars caught fire more often than horse carriages and a nightmare for firefighters.

Thank you. I took time out and just dabbled about elsewhere, mainly UK forums. I couldn't find a way to contact this site so I asked my friend to message you (you know how!!). So thanks for sorting it out.

For some strange reason, the Democrats are full mental with Trump. Due to the moderation here, I had to take time out until Trump was out of office because I was getting pulled for the most flimsy stuff. So now they have Biden, and all I can say is, OMFG, I have never witnessed such a dribbling geriatric on TV in my lifetime.

    Bolt owners are not happy.
Nathan Gardner loved his 2019 Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle when he bought it three years ago, but now it sits outside his home "like a firebomb," he said.

He wants General Motors to buy it back. So do Bolt owners Wendy Fong, Stan Goldberg and Durham Smith. They find it unsettling to own a vehicle even GM has warned could catch on fire.

“It’s unnerving at the very least," said Smith of Lake Wylie, South Carolina. He owns a 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV. "How can we possibly put a car in our garage that might catch on fire? I don’t feel secure parking a car outside given our tree coverage.”. . . .

The first gas powered car built in the US didn't come until the 1890's. So, not only were electric cars crap in the 1800's, but so were gas cars!

I agree with your statement about adding a charging station when buying an electric car. Today's batteries have too much capacity for a 110 extension cord. And, who the heck wants to drive to a service station for fuel??

Basically, a 220 outlet will do the trick for most cars - like a clothes dryer in your garage.

Max distance for a good number of electric cars is over 300 miles now. That certainly solves commutes.

It's going to be interesting to see what the electric Ford F150 will be capable of doing.

Yes, Texas really screwed the pooch. But, that's Texas, not America obviously.

    Range is wholly inadequate.

What's funny is an argument to this they'll try to use is that fuel powered vehicles have range limited by the gas tank as if it doesn't take 5 minutes to recharge it to completely.

    It's a burning question.
E-Vehicle Woes: German Cities Remove E-Buses From Service After Bursting In Flames: “Fire Hazard”
    By P Gosselin on 7. November 2021

E-buses in Germany a “fire hazard” as batteries can heat up to 1000°C. German cities taking vehicles out of service as a precaution.

Even after years of fine-tuning, electric vehicle manufacturers still seem unable to get e-vehicle technology to work as safely as it needs to for personal and public transportation. . . .
