Elizabeth Warren Announces Anti-Corruption Plan

DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL candidate Elizabeth Warren announced an anti-corruption plan Monday, which includes requiring lawmakers to disclose their tax returns and banning fundraising activities hosted by lobbyists.

Warren plans to enact conflict of interest laws that apply to the president and vice president, requiring them to place their businesses into a blind trust to be sold off.

"No more payoffs. No more bribes from foreign governments. No more self-dealing," Warren stated.

Additionally, anyone running for or serving in federal elected office would be required to publicly release their tax returns, "so nothing like Donald Trump's refusal to disclose his taxes can ever happen again." Government officials would not be allowed to trade individual stocks while in the office and lobbyists would not be allowed to hold government jobs. USNEWS

Something like this is sorely needed as the decorum, integrity and norms we have depended on have been slowly eroded. She seems to have several plans that might actually make a dent in the corruption that is so commonplace (and now applauded) in American politics.

I was originally against her but the more she shows where she wants her administration to go and accomplish I am rethinking my position.

Is anyone against this?

The laws should (hopefully) apply to both parties.

Actually it's not a terrible plan, but I think the sticking point will be "Government officials would not be allowed to trade individual stocks while in the office..." During the Financial crisis Congressman were attending briefings and then running right out and contacting their brokers. So that doesn't happen again maybe the same requirement of a blind trust should apply to Congressmen and Senators. Then I'd believe this was real.

Why was she silent during the 8 years of utterly corrupt and fully owned by lobbyists Obama administration?

Why was she silent when corrupt and fully owned by special interests Clintons ran for the presidency?

Why was she silent when corrupt FBI leadership attempted a soft coup against the duly elected president?

Please, the dems always run on healthcare and corruption and always leave office with healthcare and corruption in infinitely worse shape than it was when they came to power.

 

Well, anti-corruption and COI practices are actually why faculty's salaries are publicly available. I don't see how receiving negotiated salary for services provided (teaching, service, scholarship) is corruption? Maybe you can enlighten us?

 

I think it is the right thing to do, not exempting the president from COI rules.

However, watch the Trump fans attack Warren, instead of acknowledging the utter corruption in their hero's administration. They defend Trump's blatant COI violations tooth and nail.

Personally, I find her a little frantic for my taste, but I hope that's just campaign mode.... Give me somebody more mellow like Amy every time....

Pocahontas should be really careful for what she is calling for, the DNC might throw Pocahontas under the bus.

The Chi-Com lobbyist and the Beijing government have been huge contributors to the DNC coffers and Democratic politicians going back to the 1990's and Chinagate.

Rep. Adam Schiff really should seek Play-Dough therapy before he steps on a Chi-Com bouncing betty.

I'm not on her staff and her public face is basically mellow.... It's healthy to have an outlet somewhere... Amy has her staff... Trump has cheap women

There was no soft coup. It’s absurd to claim an investigation is a coup. I can post the definition if it would help.

Seems to be a trend with both parties. trump has failed so we move on to the next.

 

Measures designed so that only career establishment politicians will ever again be able to hold federal office. Is it a good thing to disallow non-career politicians from service to their country? I think not.
