The allegation that Warren gained any advantage is nothing more than rightwing disinformation.

My spouse has no idea she even had any such heritage until it came to light via 23andMe. Warren was merely passing along family folklore rather than making a claim to being a minority.

It turns out the family folklore has a factual basis. End of story, drop it and move on.

This thread is laughable but completely predictable.

Look at how Trump's forked-tongue talk is worded. "if ... it shows you're an Indian." Trump can, and no doubt will, back right out of that promise based on how far back her Native lineage is.

According to Warren, she believed she was native american based on family lore. This lore was likely exaggerated and she check market native american on her application. Seems like an honest mistake to me. Honestly, I care far more about her economic proposals than some dumb thing she did in college, everyone has done something they have regretted in college.

What does the biblical fairy tale say in Deuteronomy 23:2 (KJV)? =
*2 A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the Lord.*

I think you are giving him too much credit. He doesn't care about what is true or not, he knows that just mindlessly shouting Pocahontas and Venezuela will rile up his base, so no discussion of the issues necessary.

What this seems to indicate, though, is that Warren is serious about a presidential run. I am still not sure if this is a good idea for the Dems, because of the baggage, whether the "Pocahontas" meme is justified or not. it is already in everyone's mind as soon as she is mentioned. Talk about labeling someone with the aim to totally shut out debate.

Trump will probably claim that "Indian" means that she will have to prove her ancestors were from Mumbai or Delhi.

Nevertheless, Te, Warren DID voluntarily, and with full knowledge that she did it, officially describe herself as a "MINORITY"!

"The Boston Herald reported that Warren had previously been touted in the 1990s by officials at Harvard Law School, where she was a tenured professor, as an example of the faculty’s diversity. That led to the revelation that Warren — citing only anecdotal evidence — claimed to be part Cherokee and Delaware Indian, and had listed herself as a minority in a directory of law professors from 1986 until 1995."

It's hard to say if she got an advantage or not....she certainly wanted her employer to know about it, prior to knowing for sure if she actually was.

Yes, we all did stupid, negligent things in college. But not many of us deliberately leveraged some far-fetched MINORITY status to get special consideration and concessions!

That was Harvard doing the "touting", not Warren herself.

She did not do that. Harvard was desperate to appear 'diverse' in response to criticism.

If I check a box saying that my great great grandfather served with Custer without having any actual evidence that he did other than family folklore am I lying?

Bear in mind when Warren did the same thing DNA testing did not yet exist.

The issue here is moot because the DNA testing backs up her family folklore. She obviously was not lying.

Trump actually went a step further --- he denies ever offering to pay a million dollars, period...

    https://www.fastcompany.com/90251448/trump-denies-million-dollar-offer-elizabeth-warren-ancestry

Of course Trump lovers will either try to find a way to claim he never lied -- or just say "its ok, he was just trolling libs"

You obviously didn't read my post. She does have Native American so that claim is actually true. She said she took her claim from family lore and I can understand if as a struggling college student she checked that box based on family lore. Some people do a lot of drugs in college, cheat a lot, committed minor sexual harassment, etc and I think these things are just as bad or even worse than checking a box based on weak research.

Between 64 great^4 grandparents and 1024 great^8 Grand parents so between 1 of her 64 great great great great grand parents was American Indian, or 16 of her great great great great great great great great grand parents.

I'd imagine it's hard to find a honkey cracker snow ape that has a long enough lineage in this country that doesn't have one drop of native American in them.

After all we really are the same species.

DNA testing didn't exist in the 90s? I don't think you are knowingly lying in your hypo, but I am curious why you would be checking the box?

You are not excited about being a minority --- in fact, people who claim they are excited about being a minority are only excited up until the point they get treated like a minority.

The only people I see afraid to death of being a minority are those in the majority....which is funny because according to them, minorities all have it so easy
