didn't Bush sign it into law?

    http://www.wnd.com/2007/12/45156/

"President Bush signed the 822-page measure into law today after it was sent up Pennsylvania Avenue in a Toyota Prius hybrid vehicle. The House passed the bill by a 314-100 vote after approval by the Senate last week. "

    seems it was bipartisan....

It's why a few years ago I stocked up on plain old light bulbs when they were still plentiful and cheap. I've got at least 200 of various lumens. Another decade and they'll be collectors items.

Please provide credible links establishing that cancer was directly caused by CFL's and cell phones.

Thank you for conceding your position that you have nothing credible to substantiate your allegations.

    Have a nice day.

Really? Why? We have LED's in a fixture in the lobby where I work and they don't last any longer than incandescent bulbs. The whole reason they bought the fixture is because it's 20 feet off the ground and have to rent a lift every time they need to replace bulbs. Now, it's costing 5 times as much as incandescent bulbs due to the cost of the LED bulbs and the frequent rental of a lift to get to the burned out ones.

Nothing new here. Fluorescent bulbs contain mercury. Duh!
College idiots promoting them as safe alternatives. What a joke.

Like incandescent lamps, LED's are not impervious to bullets.

This is frightening to learn about the dangers involved with the usage of ecological light bulbs.

I HATE those damn bulbs!!! I tried them and quickly got rid of them. I love to settle down w/a good book and the lighting isn't as good as the good old regular old-fashioned bulbs.

About a month ago, my daughter opened up my utility cabinet and I saw her mouth drop open.....she was staring at my HUGE supply of incandescent bulbs. When they went on sale, I was the 1st in line and got more than my share.....

I'd like to know why the hell we can't have a choice in the lighting we need.........

You either have solar on your roof or you pay the price the electric company charges.

I pay what is charged to me and my electric bill is reasonable.... since I started unplugging. Lamps I don't use that often, microwave, coffee pot, etc, are unplugged until I need to use them, then they're unplugged again until the next use.......try it. It DOES cut down the cost..

I actually had a HUGE problem with these... back when the ban was first set to go into place, I like everyone else went out and bought some since well, my bulbs burnt out, I didn't have any choice... I bought one of the 3packs on sale because well, they were the least expensive at the time... so off I go, install 2 of them in the bathroom to replace 1 burnt out bulb, and rather than have one flicker on and the other come on instant, I changed both at once...

guess what... my place almost burned down... they didn't come with any warnings about being use in high moisture areas... believe me I checked the package and bulb countless times, now they come with a warning not to use in high moisture areas... after a shower one day I had the light and fan going while I changed in the other room... suddenly I smell something burning... and it smelled like plastic... I ran ALL over the place trying to locate the smell and finally settle on it coming from the bath room after I was in a panic running all over... but I couldn't figure out why it was coming from the bathroom... I thought for sure it had to be the ceiling fan, it was pretty new so I thought what if I got a bad one or the wiring wasn't done right... I turned it off... shut off power to my house... was running into the attic with a flashlight... tossing insulation all over the place as I try to find the burning...

after another 10min of looking around, smelling... I notice the odor is still most strong in the bathroom... but I just can't figure out where... its not the fan, I must have smelled a dozen times above it and below it and pulled it down from the ceiling entirely... I thought its got to be something electrical, I never thought to check the light bulbs I just replaced the week before... eventually the smell dies down... by now I've called an electrician to come out because I'm paranoid, you don't smell that smell for nothing... a couple hours he finally get here on a sunday, triple time to get him to come... ugh... he goes in there pulls all the light switch covers off, crawls into the attic to take a look at the ceiling fan himself... says it all looks fine, hooked up his little equipment and says it seems to be all fine...

he turns the power back on... we head back up and start looking around... suddenly the smell REALLY comes hard and we see smoke coming from the lights... I flip off the lights quick and sure enough... you can see the base of the bulb had browned and was burning and melting... it could have burned my entire place down... all because I was compelled to switch to a new bulb... ever since I have refused to use any of these bulbs, I'm glad I can still buy the old ones now... I've got dozens sitting in the closet... never again will I ever use them...

I was able to find a link showing basically what happened to me years ago... now I see there was a massive recall on many of these bulbs I had bought when I was forced to buy them a while ago... wow good thing I found out now after the fact hey...

but first a youtube of a guy who's bathroom did catch on fire from these same bulbs...

And they only save energy if they are left on for very long periods.

Incandescents are much more efficient for short periods.

Science is out of control, serving corporate interests under nanny gov. Only our lawful and peaceful revolution can reverse this trend.

Just the fact that they have toxic mercury in them is ridiculous for them to even be sold to the public. Nobody recycles them and they just end up in a land fill. Why are these things even still made?

The only compact fluorescent bulbs left at my house are outside.

    The rest are all LED's.

There is something very wrong with the fluorescent lamps in your picture.

It is labeled 18 Watt but the current is 0.333 Ampere at 120 V. An 18 Watt lamp at 0.8 power factor should have a current around 0.19 Ampere if it was 100% efficient. Your lamp may have been very inefficient and the electronics may have been dissipating 20 Watt or more of heat which is more than they are designed for.

The problem with these defective items is that people don't take them back to the store and file a complaint.

UL should not have allowed their stamp on this item.

Buy LED. Why anyone continues to buy CFL and incandescent bulbs is a mystery to me. I've cut my monthly electrical bill in half by switching my whole house to LED

LEDs don't last any longer? Let me guess, you're using the same "scientists" that claim there is no global warming, right?

I use CFL lamps in my living room. Total power consumption of the 5 is around 60W. To replace them with incandescents would increase that to around 500W. The cost saving to me is worth a slight degradation in the quality of light. I haven't tried LED lamps but from what I read they are more directional than ambient.
