Every member of an Arizona family has undergone a transgender transformation, with the father identifying as a woman, the fiancee identifying as a man and the two children also having swapped genders since birth.
Daniel Harrott, of Queen Creek, Arizona, lived most of his life as a woman and fiancee, Shirley Austin, was born a man but has been living as a woman, KJZZ-TV reports. Harrott’s two children, Mason, 11, and 13 year-old Joshua have also both switched sexes within recent years. Mason is living as a boy but was assigned to be a woman at birth. Joshua’s birth sex was assigned male but she says she’s long known she’s more comfortable as a female.
Austin describes the entire family as being in “transition.”

It feels like you’re getting to live for the first time,” he said. “And my children are getting to be who they’ve always wanted to be.”Daniel Harrott told KJZZ-TV transgender individuals have been members of the family for generations, with his grandmother’s sister being described by other members of the family at the time as a “cross-dresser.” Daniel’s mother was raised to dress “feminine” by her grandmother who was concerned over her own sister’s transvestite behavior.
Harrott and Austin both say they are trying to teach their children about “traditional” gender roles despite Mason and Joshua both going through gender transitions themselves.

Of course my mother just gave that same lesson: ‘This is not OK. You must be a girl. This is who you were born to be,” Harrott said.Despite previously getting married to a man and giving birth to two children, Harrott says he never felt comfortable in makeup or women’s clothes and wasn’t introduced to the word “transgender” until a few years ago when Joshua was unable to join the Girl Scouts after being raised as a boy.
Harrott said that it was the children who led the way on the family’s collective gender transitions. Soon after being introduced to the term “transgender,” Joshua came out as a trans girl and Mason came out as a trans boy. In order to live his “authentic self” as well, Harrott got a haircut and began shopping in the men’s section of clothing stores.

“And when I finally looked it up, and I realized, ‘Oh my gosh, they’re trans, and I know it’s true – because I am, too, and it’s been my whole life,’” Harrott said.
Harrott told KJZZ that everyone in the family are actually ‘very traditional’ people, who really see each other.”

I question whether those children are growing up in a healthy environment.

No indication that they are. The vast majority medical professions agree that trans individuals should be waiting until they are a legal adult before any SRS type surgeries, or HRT. Now the use of puberty blockers is pretty divided, but that is still a more easily reversible procedure than the other two. Being allowed to present as the identified gender is no where near HRT, or SRS.

why do you question the environment? The last that I heard, our sex is fluid and can change in a wink. Who knows, if the deal for a reality show doesn't pan out then maybe they will all "transition" back to their biological sex.

I say kudos to them for giving this a go and seeing if they can get 15 minutes of fame.

If they are serious, and not just pulling our legs, then they need psychiatric help.

No your BORN a man or a woman based on genetics and that's fixed by nature. They all need serious therapy and the children taken away before they do more harm to them and they can learn to act within their birth genders.

When Bruce Jenner was kicked from the Kardashian show it had to have been a huge let down. So, he did what any good showman does who craves the limelight and ran with the transgender thing. He understood the timing was right. Now we have an entire family giving it a go but so far, it doesn't seem to have gotten legs. I don't know if it will work but I do say kudos to the enterprising family for trying.

As to this not being a hoax, come on, an entire household being sick in the head at the same time; what are the odds of that?

Fair warning, I'm going to ask you trick questions. We'll see how you do.

What defines being a man? What defines being a woman?

...because you're qualified to diagnose people you've never met and dictate that they need "serious therapy"?

Explain exactly what harm is taking place.

That's not how gender identity works. A person doesn't "learn to act within their birth gender". They might be socialized to act according to the sex a doctor assigned them at birth, but that's not really the same thing. A person's gender identity is they're concept of self, as a man, a woman, or not perceiving one's self as fitting within the sociological construct of gender as purely binary. Most people have a gender identity that comports with their assigned sex. (I personally do.) But some do not. You appear to want to label it an illness requiring "serious therapy" to "cure it." But the goal of therapy isn't to make people comply with your personal notions of how they should feel and behave. It's to help them cope with the things that are causing them distress and making them ill. You don't achieve that by trying to force a transgender person to change their concept of self.

You may think you know what is or isn't so, and that you have some right to demand what other people should be, and what they should do. But the truth is that all you really have is your own ill-informed opinion, not the control over others you so clearly seek.

    1) biology
    2) if someone believes that they are something (physically) that they are not, we refer to this belief as a delusion. delusions are a symptom of mental illness. obviously.
    3) there is very great harm in failing to assist children to adapt to reality. and greater harm still in encouraging them to think that reality will adapt to them. further, our role as parents is to ward off unproductive fixations, habits, and behaviours, not encourage them. such things will always hurt them in adulthood. clear 'harm'.
    4) there is no 'gender identity' in biology. we are mammals, and are what our biology determines. anything else is just thoughts and vanity. the very best 'treatment' for confused children - if parenting has been so inept that confusion has already set in - is to redirect the child's focus outward and away from unproductive thoughts. keep 'em busy, as they say in the classics. they can't develop these unhealthy fixations in the first place unless they're enabled with too much self-focus time, and encouraged to give legitimacy to every passing feeling.

I hope you are not religious, because this argument is practically tailor made to show religion as delusional.

Well at least you are consistent in that aspect.

As to your point on failing to assist children in adapting to reality, there is a great many things that we once thought as reality that we now know different, and most calls delusional when the concept first arose. The heliocentric model is a great example. People were very upset if it got taught because it "conflicted with reality". There is much within the sex/gender dynamics that we are realizing we initially had wrong.

There is nothing (in science or nature) simpler than the male/female duality. It does not demand the sophistry of ages. The absolute understanding of it has existed not just in humans, but pretty much all animal life, since the dawn of life on dry land. It has never changed, and never will - outside of some sort of chemically induced increase in birth defects.

You are attempting (unsuccessfully) to equate this to things like ... a 19thC failure to comprehend germs. We never understood germs, and nor did the animal kingdom. The animal kingdom still doesn't.

When it come to the biology of things, that which contributes to the procreation and perpetuation of humans, I fully agree on the straight binary of our race. It is the very foundation of offspring production. However we humans are more complex than any other animal, and we have such a great variety of so many traits. Among these are the aspects of identity that we have long associated with our individual sex. But as with many things we have come to realize that simply because something falls out of the norm, or off the bell curve, it is not automatically a disorder, or a defect, but instead normal (in the non-statistical colloquial use of the word) and natural. For example, with sexual attraction, while the norm is to be attracted to the opposite sex, it is quite normal for one to be attracted to the same sex or to both. Relatively rare, yes, but normal nonetheless. The same goes for gender identity. The norm is to identify such as to match the body parts, but not always.

Now, as I have noted before (not positive if it was this thread or another), there are those who align well with those roles we typically associate with one sex or the other, and may mistake this affinity towards the roles as identifying other than their sex. But those roles are purely artificial. Drag Queens are a great example of behavior association vs. gender association. Most Drag Queens do not see themselves as female, but as male. They exhibit many stereotypically female roles and behaviors, but those roles and behavior have nothing to do with their identity.

You're attempting to equate two discrete features (of humanity). Physical reality, and the product of the mind.

Always worth remembering that we are essentially the same as a primate, or a wolf - higher social mammals - despite the fact that our MINDS have developed to be more complex than the minds of those species. Meantime, ANY failure to accept our physical reality is technically an adjustment disorder, and is therefore a glitch in the system. Specifically though, when it comes to sexual orientation, the only one which is a glitch is asexuality, as our physical reality is the mating urge. Imagining that you are something other than what you are (gender dysphoria) is a) an adjustment disorder, b) entirely the product of the mind, and c) does not require the recognition of the general public - any more than the private and idiosyncratic delusions of other mental illnesses do.

Again .. there will always be a small number of people with defective minds. Our goal should be to accept that for what it is, rather than attempting to rearrange physical reality in our need to pretend it's just another flavour of being. In the same way we try to ameliorate the effects of birth defects, we should be working on treatment of the mental defects which give rise to symptoms like gender dysphoria. We don't treat symptoms (other than in passing, for temporary comfort), we treat the disease. It's a terrible regress of medical science to focus on the symptoms, while ignoring the disease. That's what we did in the Dark Ages .. but at least they had the excuse of ignorance.

Is a person who is XY but has androgen insensitivity syndrome a man or a woman? You say it’s determined by genetics.

Along with this question, is a Chimera who is the result of a male/female fraternal twin pair male or female, since they will have both types of DNA?

Funny these self anointed experts on human psychology and human development.
They measure everyone else by their own preconceptions of what everyone should be, each person in society in a comfortable little cubby hole, so they are im their place and heaven help anyone that does not know their place !!!

Gotta love Atheists, they take the cake for having a closed mind,
    how ?
In ages past, today's technology would be considered Magic Arts, early natives thought visitors in ships were gods, and guns were thought to be magic.

So let's say the concept of Religion is based on a primitive conceptualization of Aliens and Alien technology, that visited our planet.

Athiests tend to discount any other possible explanation to mythology and ancient legends.

And yes, the human mind is most complex, you cannot at present, know the hows or whys of gender.
It simply is what it us.

Any technology sufficiently advanced is indistinguishable from magic. And with that concept, I would add any natural phenomenon not currently measurable is indistinguishable from magic. I do use magic rather generically, as we could substitute with psionics and other similar
    phenomenon

This is what I keep saying about unicorns. The origins are singled horned goats, similar to ones that actually used to be bred in the 60's and 70's for circuses. Not sure where all of the various attributes came from but the distortion to the equine for was most likely from the tapestry series in medieval time

Because what passes for Religion is so divorced from true Spirituality, it is a joke and those that follow it and practice hate and bigotry and racism are not worshiping any Diety of Love.
They work Evil and not Good.

In any case, I did not attack Religion, I made an analogy as to Atheists being close minded as far as being more accepting of the potential possibilities.

The Goat / Unicorn should be Uni-horn,
( Unibrow ) was not my idea.....

interesting, your opinion is a fine example of intolerance and bigotry towards those who have a difference of opinion with you.

It doesn't take long for true colors to be shown
