Something you won't see much news coverage about.

"The poor will always be with us just not on the TV news."

I remember, about 25 years ago or so, visiting the other side of the border in Mexico and being completely SHOCKED by how people were living over there. That was my first peek of how things were in the Third World. Well now you can see a lot of the same things in many parts of California.

This was NOT normal 25 years ago.

These pictures are from Los Angeles:

This isn't just skid row. It's now spread throughout all sorts of different parts in the city.

This is what a homeless camp left behind in San Jose:

For those of you who don't know, this is in the very heart of Los Angeles, a part where all the tourists go:

Here are city workers in Fresno clearing out makeshift structures under a freeway overpass:

A drive by looking at all the homelessness in the city:

Homelessness just South of Los Angeles county too:

Plenty of luxury high-rises constructed, but nobody can afford them:

The "Golden" state refers to the vast amounts of urine that flow along the sidewalks and drains where he armies of homeless people live.
If Jerry Brown and the leftist dominated state government have even a slight interest in fighting this blight and public health hazard they are doing a great job of keeping things secret.

Ironically they think Jerry Brown is going to be considered a moderate compared to whoever is likely to succeed him as governor.

Think California politics is on the far-left fringe? Just wait for the next elections.

Let's also not forget with that huge population there are likely to be many issues with people spilling out, into other states.

California has a bigger population than the 17 other states in the Western half of the United States (excluding Texas) combined.

It's grotesque. A total corruption of the survive and prosper instinct, which is sharpened by hunger.

When you take away all necessity to fight, the human animal will lie down and wait to die.

Republican Bush brought in most of them.
But Trump is responsible for the mess since he refuses to clean it up.

Any homeless person 'worth their salt' would not live in a four season climate like Ohio or Michigan. The winters would be too difficult for them to survive. What the smart ones do is work their way to the nicest climate possible. It's unfortunate that California happens to be that place.

There are several multi million dollar mega churches in California, most of them run by Republicans. If they were true Christians, they would use their money to fix the problem. But, as usual, they wait for the government to step in rather that to obey the laws of their god.

Interesting. Please demonstrate how the president of the United States "refuses" to clean up California's pervasive homeless problem.

That's like saying you've been an over drinking alcoholic for thirty years but your new family doctor refuses to fix your worn out liver.

This is utter nonsense. Plenty of penniless off-grid types living in Alaska etc. These Californians won't live in such places because cold climates require more work to survive. It's the work they don't like, not the cold. The cold is meaningless once you've built a solid cabin and have a wood stove.

Does your arm get tired passing the buck like that? Every church has outreach to the poor but it's not the church grounds where armies of homeless debris are sleeping in public urban areas.

And it's not the church that confiscates money from every citizen of the state to help fix the problem their open borders and cruel neglect help cause.
Blaming mega churches is just cowardly and senseless but I bet it made you feel better to lash out senselessly like that.

The libs in California did this to their state. We don't have that problem in Texas.

    Liberals destroy everything they touch.

That's not the point. There are those who've wandered into publicly owned forest with nothing more than an axe, a hammer, and a couple of kilos of nails, and ended up with wonderful, very solid, small houses. Go far enough in, and no one will ever know you're there. Find a high spot over a creek, and start felling trees. Build your wood stove from locally sourced stones and clay (both easily found around creeks). If you want a metal roof, you can find tonnes of the stuff in various states of repair at any refuse centre. All of it takes WORK, hard work.

Your 'most homeless' people want instant or easy shelter, hence the tents. They want easy access to fast food, cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, etc. They don't want to have to grow food, catch fish, or hunt small mammals. They don't want to have to build anything. They don't want to live without their drugs and fast food.

Of course not. Most are mentally ill and unemployable.

50 years ago, libs shut down the mental hospitals because they were "cruel" and violated the rights of the insane. This is the result.

I remember reading a study a while back, maybe 2006. Only about a third had diagnosed severe mental problems. Another third had substance addiction issues.
    That still leaves another third.

There are many parts of California where about 40% of the homeless are undocumented. But that study I referred to was nation-wide, so I'm sure there's got to be a substantial chunk of the homeless population in the state that don't fall into the above three categories.

And a lot has changed since 2006.

Intractable laziness is effectively a 'mental problem'.

I was in LA only once - not impressed. Hollywood Boulevard, where all those stars on the ground are, is nasty ghetto.
I live in Chicago and visited New York many times and homelessness is not as catchy on your eye as it is in LA. Don’t know why. Cops in Chicago are pretty rough, I guess they manage homeless better.

There are true mental issues - I know one guy who became homeless for a period of his life. His behavior was always out of it, he was in jail multiple times for stupidest things. He eventually got back on his feet, but last I heard about him was that he is popping a bunch of pills to manage his mental issues every day.

Left to their own designs, the left's economic, tax, regulatory, labor (union), and environmental/sustainable development policies always eventually create two-tiered societies...

all while they shed crocodile tears for the disappearing middle class.

Yes. But they're not fixed by money, in most cases.

There are the truly helpless, and these people were once institutionalised, until all the institutions closed down. Then there is the next tier of dysfunctional, those who can exist in the community in a 'sheltered' fashion. These (your Autists etc) used to be cared for by family, for life, but are now kicked out by equally dysfunctional families - often at a ridiculously young age. Then there are those who've had all the opportunities to thrive - supportive family, friends, and no mental illness - yet have chosen a life of dissolution, rather do the hard work of staying healthy, clean, and on good terms with friends and family.
