If it did, then Lois Lerner should still be in jail.

Im not sure karma applies in this case. If trump hurt you, it may be your own fault!

Let me use a simple example of 'not providing information'.

You are driving. You get pulled over. The cop asks if you knew how fast you were going (admitting knowledge). The cop asks if you were late to work (admitting circumstances). The cop asks where you were going (admitting more possible circumstances) all which are not information they need to accuse you of something. If you provide the information they are asking, you are giving them information to build a case against you, regardless of guilt.

Cop, testifying: The driver said he knew he was going a little fast, said he was late to work, and I estimated their speed a 12 miles over the speed limit.

Is it NOW clear why you don't give anyone information that can be used against you?

Hmm.. really. It sounded like it was something they personally agree with. Perhaps you'll tell us now that it isn't what you believe though.

in most cases it's cause they are guilty, i think we all know that, but there could be exceptions

So you don't agree that folks should have the privilege not to provide evidence against themselves. Tyranny comes in many flavors. And this is yours?

You are driving. You get pulled over.

The cop asks if you were late to work (admitting circumstances). A: I don't know what time it is, I don't wear a watch.
The cop asks where you were going (admitting more possible circumstances). A: I haven't decided yet, why?
The cop asks if you if you know how fast you were going (admitting guilt). A: No, I was paying attention to the road and pedestrians.

Parse your words carefully and be polite. Being rude serves no purpose other than to guarantee a traffic citation ($$$$$) for what ever he pulled you over for.

Indeed - and if not for the Blue kangaroo clown show - judicial resources might be put to good use.

If I'm not guilty of the bank robbery, I answer where I was the other night....

If I was committing another crime at another place, then I plead the 5th, but at that point, I'm still avoiding self incrimination.

BTW, your use of "mate" tells me a lot about your background in American laws...

    No.

I repeat: the 5th exists to prevent a witness from incriminating himself by answering a question from a prosecutor.

Absolutely... just as long as you know you that action can and will be used against you in a civil case...

Since when did the right become pro-criminal? Since 2017...

Your answer is that of someone completely politically biased who doesn't even know why the 5th exists.

Trump is right: mobsters and culprits use the 5th.

An innocent person has no reason to fear being falsely accused by a US Attorney.

I remember the Obama IRS doing the same thing for targeting conservatives.

Except that this example has nothing to do with what is happening to Eric Trump.

The Trump Org is accused of fudging the value of its properties upwards to obtain loans and downwards to evade taxes.

Eric Trump has certainly been questioned on specific points of documents that bear his signature, since he holds an important position in the company.

But instead of answering that he didn't know - because it's impossible for him not to know - he pleaded the 5th.

    That says a lot.

Actually, a simple no to question 1, question 2 a polite it doesn't matter, question 3, I was doing the speed limit. (Real life answers given)

It's then up to them to prove otherwise. It is VERY rare for them to be able to PROVE what speed you were going, because most speeding pull-overs are not done from speed traps.

I won't get into details, but I walked away from that particular encounter without even a warning.
