Euro 2020 and Copa America Football Tournaments.

I asked some Brazilians about it and people said while what I said makes sense, it's politically impossible to implement now, due to several details of the local politics they mentioned to me.

 

Leave it to politics to screw everything up.

Great game so far. 1-1, and England are looking way more impressive. At this point, I fear England more than Denmark for the final.

 

The Danes have equilibrated the actions again. This game is 50-50 now. The outcome is hard to predict. Great game.

 

Well I take this back. The English did play better in regulation and deserved it more. We'll see what extra time brings. In any case I'm happy for extra time, to bring about a bit of wear and tear for the final, since we had to endure it too in our game. It evens out one aspect of the equation.

 

Where is everybody? For once I'm watching a game live but there isn't anybody else here?

Congratulations England. Now, the two tournaments have very worthy finals with four true world class soccer powers:

England vs. Italy
Brazil vs. Argentina

It doesn't get any better. This weekend will be lots of fun. May the best ones win (erm... provided that the best ones will be Italy and Brazil, LOL)

I'll second those congrats to England and extend them to our friend Montegriffo, and I agree we've got a nice slate of finals to look forward to this weekend.

I'll be rooting for England in the Euro but I'm picking your boys to win by a slim margin.

I'm kinda torn in the Copa - part of me wants Brazil to win and part of me want to see Messi finally hoist the trophy....Nevertheless I have to pick Brazil to win.

 

Sorry, just too engrossed in the game. Plus I had a mate round to help me drink my port.

1) I was knee-high to my daddy the last time England was in the Euro final

and

2) Your countrymen downed 7 million pints of my favorite beverage tonight. Let's go for 8 million, shall we?

England has never been in a Euros final before.
Our only other final was the '66 World Cup.
I was one year old.

That's the first time I've ever watched England win a semi-final.

 

Yes, I'm happy for our friend Montegriffo... today. On Sunday it's a whole different story! Go Italy!

I think we couldn't have hoped for a more compelling weekend of soccer.

Italy was the best tournament team, I think. Sure, we struggled a bit against Spain but it happens. We were still resilient enough and had great defense, and prevailed. England grew into the tournament more and more and became a truly impressive team. So I think overall the two best teams will meet in the final.

In South America, same thing. By far the two best teams will meet in the final as well.

So the two strongest continents in soccer have their currently best teams facing each other.

It would be nice if we had an Intercontinental Cup with the two winners facing each other in a home and away series of two games, and a third game in a neutral country if the score remained tied on aggregate.

Oh well, I guess, that's what Qatar 2022 is for...

I'll agree with that analysis.

I've been saying for some time Italy is the best team and England has gotten better as the tournament has progressed. We'll see off England can build on that progress Sunday.

As for the Copa, who can argue with a Brazil-Argentina/Neymar-Messi matchup in the final?

 

Now, it's not like England didn't deserve to win... they did. But that penalty... was a dive.

 

Denmark were taking men out all night with no attempt to get the ball. They were lucky not to have a lot more yellow cards.
I thought the ref had a poor game.

Argentina is the home country of my Grandmother, half my family lives there. Messi was a warier in the last game and his team fought for him.
I root for Argentina, so Messi can finally hold a trophy for his country. That would be sweet.

@Center Field. That Argentine goal keeper has a presence, he was outstanding. I used to be a gk, team handball and soccer, played Second Bundesliga in Handball, as first GK with 17. Goal keeping is not just about preventing a goal, its about impressing the other one, intimidating, presence. I think Martinez is the guys name. I liked that a lot.

I root for Italy, because it has the better food, wines and its beautiful women

 

Yes, Messi does deserve to lift a trophy with his national team. Still, due to my many ties with Brazil where I lived and worked for two years, and my many friends there, I am supporting Brazil.

Martinez the goalkeeper: that was a truly formidable performance in that PK series! Uncanny! If Brazil wants this done, they should try hard to take care of it before it needs to be done in a PK series because I'd not want to face that guy with a title on the line.
