It's all specifically about natural gas, not gasoline / oil. And no doubt when push comes to shove in the next winter, they are simply not supplying the gas needed some steel and chemical plants who use massive of amounts of that stuff. It doesn't matter one bit if they are going to do it now, or later. If there is a shortage later. Big if.

And will the EU collapse when some steel and chemical plants are getting a dead stop? I really can't see how on earth that is going to happen.

Europe can purchase cheap gas from Israel.
Europe will not collapse because lack of gas... maybe because of Islam.

Nah, I'd just phone Qatar and tell them 'Hey bud, how about you switch over to selling gas to Germany and drop customers closer to us & we'll pick up the slack. Then we can get our heads together & review the deal in, say 6 months or so to see if it needs to be continued'.

    Sounds fair to me. :)

Which is why weaning the US off of the imported oil teat is a national security issue.

That's a good description of Russia.

There are some countries, like Poland, that have elected Right wing authoritarians. But in an ironic twist, Putin has them wanting to side with the democracies.

There is Right wing populism, but mostly it winds up like France. Despite heavy Russian meddling, Le Pen lost.

Let me guess, an EU whine is next.

We don't say 'Hey bud', we say, 'G'day mate'
    That's pretty important.

Reckon that's a newbie, as we say. Shrimp never used to be an Aussie staple when I was growing up.
Have tried kangaroo but it's gamey - and besides, we rear orphan kangaroo joeys and can't bring
ourselves to eat 'roo now. Sheep, known as 'lamb' is my favorite, after beef steak that is.

I suspect we have the resources and the means to withdraw our own energy when/if we need it.
We actually export oil related products, gas related. Even though we import.

But we also import from more than 1 supplier, don't we?

Yes, which is why renewables are strategically vital. Every barrel that doesn't need to be turned into gasoline or diesel is a barrel the House of Saud can choke on.

Here's an idea, the US, Britain and France have a great many nuclear warships. Moor them in ports and connect them to the mains?

The fact that the west is still so dependent on fossil fuels is the height of stupidity. This issue should have been solved decades ago.

The oil industry buys politicians who do their level best to prevent that, it seems.
