How sad! If the state of Alaska doesn't have the funds to hire and train the right people then what? Should the state just take over law enforcement in the town?
Small towns always have a hard time hiring cops so I'm really not surprised they all have convictions. To all have domestic violence convictions is disturbing. The sex offender registry doesnt bother me in the least, at least not without context. I've seen and heard too many instances of the sex offender label being tagged to people who really dont deserve it.
welp, you could relocate there and try to change things or mind your own biz and shut the f*ck up... your choice...
That doesn't necessarily mean anything. The legal system practically coerces them to plead guilty if they are being charged. If they're being charged, it's because a woman is accusing them. If a woman is accusing them, the word of the woman is almost always believed. They can either plead guilty and take a plea bargain to get a light sentence, or futilely go to trial and most likely be sentenced to more than twice as long. The logical thing to do, in almost all cases, is to plead guilty. As police officers, they know all too well how the system works.
It's common practice for rapist defense lawyers to demonize the rape victim. You know I'm right. Right?
Long harsh winter, long dark nights, cabin fever, summer gone quickly. But Stebbins is a nice little town, especially for people good at commercial fishing in bone chilling conditions.
They must put on the most rigorous defense possible using every tool, technicality, and dirty trick of the craft or it's malpractice. That's the ethics of the profession.
