It's odd that any athlete is considered a hero.

A more charitable statement would be that she has excellent athletic skills but poor communications skills.

Sorry, I was working the last few days.

We see you time and time again defending the dems. Your over-exaggerated laugh is another dead giveaway.

The alt left Clinton supporters are all the same

Never defend Dems. I question sweeping generalizations and hyperbole. I do the same with anti-gun people who spew exaggerations and generalizations. I have consistently said BOTH sides of are guilty of such and such. Both sides have a55 clowns for politicians. The fact is, to someone like you...anyone who disagrees with you is labeled a liberal. Quite the middle school level tactic you got going for you.

Fair enough. I get that same label- people call me conservative. I'm pro-choice, pro-legalization, and pro-ssm.

    I apologize.

No worries. It's all good. I try to keep it in perspective that this is just a message board and that there are bigger things going on in life than what is said here.

Megan Rapinoe - big book deal!

    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/soccer-star-megan-rapinoe-scores-book-deal-following-world-cup-win/

During the team's ticker-tape victory parade in New York City, Rapinoe gave a rousing speech to cheering fans. "We have to be better," she said. "We have to love more, hate less, listen more, talk less. We got to know this is everybody's responsibility. It's our responsibility to make this world a better place."

The haters will cry about it but, it's so great to see this great sports hero honored in this manner.

All nations throughout the world do so. This especially so for soccer and Olympic athletes. Recall that George Foreman was called one back in 1968 for waiving the flag in the summer games:

This because he endorsed the war on Vietnam though he declined the offer of enlisting and fighting in it.

One of the great things about America was demonstrated in the ‘68 Olympics. Tommie Smith and John Carlos demonstrated their political views with their famous Black Power salutes, then George Foreman demonstrated his by waving the American Flag after he had secured the gold medal. I respect all of them.

Yup. Smith and Carlos protested so that everyone can have freedom.

Foreman protested so that he could endorse a war he refused to fight in.

Meanwhile Muhammed Ali was prosecuted by the government for refusing to fight the war Foreman endorsed while the latter was honored as a hero.

Only when Obama was elected;) If you disagree with him, you obviously hated black people, because whenever white people disagree with a minority, its strictly due to race and ONLY race. Democrats have decreed it, so it is. You never got the memo?

Ayanna Pressley even said so recently that “This is the time to shake that table. ... We don’t need any more brown faces that don’t want to be a brown voice,”
WOW, I guess your voice only matters if it conforms to her definition of a brown person. That sounds eerily familiar to Russell Wilson in the NFL not being "black enough" , because he spoke, you know...clearly and doesn't sound or act like he's from the da hood. Kind of racist huh? Truly astounding.

Today, if you disagree with Trump you are, somehow, unpatriotic and unamerican - at least to certain right wingers. By any chance, do you remember how hate filled far right pro war types attacked the Dixie Chicks?

As always, it is right wing political correctness that is the one imposing its bizarre and intolerant standards on everyone else.

I don’t see Foreman’s gesture as a validation of the Vietnam War. George was headed for a life in prison as a violent young street punk when he was sent to the Job Corp by a court. There he learned how to Box and worked hard at it to the point where he made the US Olympic team and won the gold. His gesture was one of being proud to be a productive American instead of a street thug. He was politically unaware at that time. Later in life, George used his fame and fortune to create a street ministry which helped other kids who were headed down the same path he was to get on a more productive and less destructive path. I have met George. I like and respect him

Ali, Carlos and Smith were all political activists. Their motives were highly commendable and courageous, especially Ali who gave up so much for what he believed in. Carlos and Smith were both highly educated and Ali was an enigma who was possibly the greatest American who lived in my generation. However it is not necessesarily to demean or attack George in order to appreciate Ali, Carlos, Smith, Bill Russell, Jim Brown and others of their ilk.

Getting paid up front to write a book and actually selling them are two totally different things.

Left-wingers are always getting big bucks up front to write books.

That's a talking point though. Trump says a lot of stupid **** people disagree and nobody cares. But If you want open borders and free healthcare for illegals, that IS factually unpatriotic, because you're putting the welfare of non-citizens over your own. You're wishing legitimate chaos on the country. Being called unpatriotic really isn't on the same level as being called a racist anyway.

The Dixie chicks disparaged the country while in the UK. Are fans not allowed to be pissed at musicians being political? At the time, we really didn't know the truth and considering who their core audience was...that was their gamble to open their mouths. AGain, it was just the fringe far right who decided not to buy their albums. Big whoop.

There is no right wing PC. Where did you get that from=) Political Correctness is a Leftist concept.

Any and all "role models" a person may have happen to be flawed human beings. They are role models for specific accomplishments and/or character traits. Their failings don't necessarily spoil their successes, in fact they sometimes accentuate them. The ability to adjust perspectives and overcome our own shortcomings to improve who we are as people is what makes us rise above the average. I personally have issues with Rapinoe's political whining, but would have no problems with a child idolizing her. Her achievements were earned with hard work and dedication which is what a child should be encouraged to idolize. I also believe that with a bit of effort a child can learn to separate a person's achievements from their failures and to make up their own minds about what those are. I also believe that my personal political view should not be enforced on my children, I will expose them to both sides of an argument and answer questions posed to me honestly, but they are free to make up their own minds.

Phooey. The Dixie Chicks presented a great image of the USA while their haters reflect a hate filled agenda and an aberrant lack of tolerance.

As for open borders, we have discussed and documented enough times that this occurred far more under Republicans Reagan and Bush both of whom offered unconditional amnesty to them. If that is unpatriotic, then blame that party, not anyone else.

Everybody knows political correctness is a right wing invention. Don't believe in their twisted views? Somehow in their minds, you fail to conform to their so called "political correctness". The right wing just hates it when their own standards are fired back at them. But nobody violates those "rules" of conformance more than they do.

There can never be any validation of the Vietnam war. It was an act of imperialistic terrorism which should have resulted in a Nuremberg trial for traitors Johnson and Nixon.

But the record will show Foreman knew fully well what he was doing. For years, many right wingers pointed the finger at him as being what a true black American "hero" should be. After all, this was done only 1 week after Carlos and Smith's action both of whom were suspended by Olympic Committee Director Avery Brundage had noted Nazi sympathies and was a Jew hater.

It is true Foreman did a lot of good for kids afterwards. But so have those others you mentioned. As a boxer he was trained by Archie Moore who is my lifelong boxing idol.
