And here's the first of what is expected to be more. As these things can go they work their way up. Did this Ex-FBI lawyer do this on his own, I doubt it. This is not an indictment this is a guilty plea, what was negotiated to get it?

Ex-FBI lawyer to plead guilty in Durham look at Russia probe

A former FBI lawyer plans to plead guilty to making a false statement in the first criminal case arising from U.S. Attorney John Durham’s investigation into the probe of ties between Russia and the 2016 Trump campaign.

Kevin Clinesmith is being charged in federal court in Washington and is expected to plead guilty to one count of making a false statement, his attorney Justin Shur told The Associated Press.

I imagine this news is making a lot of well known people a bit nervous. Like other nefarious enterprises that come under legal scrutiny the low level players ask themselves " Do I keep the code of silence and pull hard time for the leaders, or do I cut a deal and name names to save my arse?". Yeah, I bet a lot of BIG names are feeling queasy. LOVE IT!

    Good, nail them all.

Funny it only took until the third paragraph for the author of that piece to begin fretting that it may help Trump, and he never did get around to explaining to readers what Clinesmith actually did.

Here's another piece that goes into more detail...

Kevin Clinesmith, Corrupt FBI Attorney Who Falsified Carter Page FISA Warrant, Expected To Plead Guilty
Kevin Clinesmith, a former top lawyer in James Comey's FBI, pleaded guilty on Friday to falsifying a federal spy warrant against Carter Page.

Clinesmith’s deliberate falsification of a federal spy warrant was first revealed last December following a lengthy investigation by the Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of the Inspector General (OIG), headed by Michael Horowitz. Horowitz and his team wrote in a 434-page report that Clinesmith — identified in the report as “OGC Attorney” — altered an email from a separate U.S. federal agency, believed to be the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), to falsely state that Page had never worked with the CIA to investigate suspected Russia agents operating within the U.S. In fact, as Clinesmith was told by the operative, Page had worked with the CIA previously, as well as with the FBI.

According to the OIG report, Clinesmith “[o]mitted Page’s prior relationship with another U.S. government agency, despite being reminded by the other agency in June 2017, prior to the filing of the final [FISA warrant] renewal application, about Page’s past status with that other agency.”

“Instead of including this information in the final renewal application,” the OIG report stated, Clinesmith “altered an email from the other agency so that the email stated that Page was ‘not a source’ for the other agency, which the FBI affiant relied upon in signing the final renewal application.”

I mean, can you imagine a better job situation?

"Yes Mr. Barr....I've got this criminal mastermind in my sights, but it's going to take 2 years, and several trips to Europe to nail this down.

Oh... and here's my monthly expense report, if you wouldn't mind"

OK go you down on record that this will be the ONLY thing to come out of the Durham investigation. And yes LYING of a federal warrant applications is a VERY SERIOUS CRIME. It's not just making a false statement it is creating a false document changing the known facts to present before a court to obtain a warrant against a private citizen. Why do you take that so lightly?

Why are you asserting this is the ONLY thing that will result and the Durham investigation ends with just this?

This was flagged by the OIG, no surprise. Also the only thing illegal that the OIG found in his probes. Maybe McCabe for a hillary leak.

Ahhhhh nope in his report which was limited as to who he could interview in his investigation which was not a criminal investigation as is the Durham investigation.

"The Department of Justice's internal watchdog has found "apparent errors or inadequately supported facts" in more than two dozen FBI wiretap applications to the secretive domestic surveillance court.

Those findings come from an initial audit by Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz of 29 FBI applications to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, also known as the FISA court."

Nope, a criminal felony for changing an internal document to present a lie to a FISA court in order to illegally obtain a warrant on a private citizen.

Why are you so desperate to try and downplay it?

Do you think he is going to federal prison. More likely house arrest or probation.

A few others have done time for merely lying to investigators. This seems like it should justify doing time as well.
