Yes, but it shouldn't be the case since it is a genuinely good thing that when blacks (whites, Asians, Hispanics, Muslims, Jews, Christians, the aged, handicapped, homosexuals or anyone else) make a similar claim (that they were a victim of a hate crime) this not be presumed to be true.

This is common sense, borne by all of our daily experience as we go about without perpetrating or ever witnessing hate crimes, we know these sometimes are reported, and sometimes are hoaxes. I think this is what the critical left is unable to accept, for them it should be presumed that anyone who claims membership in any group that has ever suffered any sort of discrimination, should be presumed to be the victim of hate crimes. They believe this is a big problem, that it happens all the time and that only the perpetrators of such crimes deny the magnitude of the problem.

but politicians need to take a step back from these things and not try to be the first to respond, just comment, "it sounds horrible if true, but I am waiting for more details to emerge before commenting"

A citizen reported a crime and people responded to that report saying that the assault was horrible. There is nothing inherently wrong with that. The problem occurs when Trump is blamed for the attack with no proof. And as it turns out the attack was staged to place blame on Trump.

There is one in front of a grand jury and there is one that is being done by the feds for the letter that went through the mail.


Felony criminal charges against Jussie Smollett approved, Chicago police say

Authorities in Chicago on Wednesday approved felony criminal charges against "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett, hours after he was "officially classified as a suspect in a criminal investigation" for allegedly "filing a false police report" in connection with his Jan. 29 attack claims, police said.

The update in the case was provided by the department's Chief of Communications Officer Anthony Guglielmi on Twitter, who said the Cook County State's Attorney's Office approved the "Disorderly Conduct / Filing a False Police Report" charges.


"Detectives will make contact with his legal team to negotiate a reasonable surrender for his arrest," he continued.

So far, Smollet has not surrendered, Chicago police told Fox News. His attorneys were made aware of the charges.


Earlier Wednesday evening, Guglielmi tweeted that detectives on the case were laying out evidence to a grand jury in Cook County.
