Tonight watching TV, I was exposed to throat singing. An Inuit woman, Tanya Tagaq was explaining her native experience in far north Canada. Inuit means the people. We call them Eskimos.

This got me to wondering who has some interesting stories that are so unusual, they are worth telling.

I served in the Army in 62-64. At Advanced Training, I was in charge of the platoon and in the platoon were two cousins. I do not recall their names today. Both were short. The common Eskimo is 5-4 and many in my platoon were a lot taller. These two were the only Eskimos I ever saw in person and got to know.

One of the two Cousins was a hard worker. He wanted me to teach him to be a first rate soldier. His cousin did not care about anything. He must have been homesick. I taught one how to shine his combat boots so shiny that outside he could see the clouds pass over looking down at his boots. In Basic, this was never the standard. I brought to AIT from the leadership academy I attended for a few weeks. There we all shined our boots that shiney.

One kind of cute story was how the slender Eskimo Cousin who was lazy liked to hide inside the locker each soldier had where he hung up his Class A dress uniform and more. We also had the footlocker. When we could not find him, we had to look in many wall lockers and then we found the little guy. He was not hard to get along with, but did not appear to be Army material. I used to have fun at times kidding both of them about living in Igloos. A lot of people believe even now they live in Igloos. Both boys kept correcting me as if we played a game. They did explain how they really lived in the far north of
Alaska. A lot of Inuits live in Canada and not Alaska.

I gathered their homes were more like this home.

This happened in 1962 so keep that in mind. Surely you have a better story about something highly unusual.
