What about the extremists from the Right?? This is not a ones sided issue. As stated before: It is NOT a party issue........it is a culturesl , societal, and security issue. ......Plus A Law and order issue.

I wonder if a big part of the problem is the internet and social media itself. People don't have to worry about seeing and actually dealing with other people, and can just ignore opposing points of view. Not everyone does this of course, but it seems to me that it is far easier to become an extremist now than it was before social media became commonplace. I'm sure there was extremism before the internet, but I dont remember it being nearly as bad. Of course, maybe that is because I didn't have the internet to look for it, haha.

I don't want to be attacked by right wing extremists either. But my personal safety seems more threatened by the left.

I'd take the right wing over BLM and Antifa if I had to choose. They aren't typically murderous thugs. .

True. The left's only solutions to any social and economic problem is mass murders; the far right is no different really, and the 'near' right is just stupid and thinks that after every busted bubble all those now worthless proles can be convinced to go off and starve to death quietly in some field somewhere, and then magically re-appear a few years later and fully trained and skilled and ready to work for less than subsistence wages. If they fail to please the ideology then it's because they're lazy n stuff.

You have hit a very important component of this extremest phenomena. Social media seems like a petri dish for these groups to develop and reinforce each other. Misinformation and conspiracy theories play a big part too. Again....... on social media. These notions almost self perpetuate now.
Excellent point. And ti is where like minded folks make their plans , reinforce each other and the steam/ momentum builds up into potentially destructive actions. I think this is how the Trump movement came to be what it is. And we saw one of the results in that attack on the Capitol.
(which the Republicans are trying to minimize now. ) That is why the Capitol is on full alert today........because of some nutty notion from Q. And if Trump does not magically rise back into power today.......they will just create another date and theory.

Psychologically.......it is pretty sick) and yes..... there is such a thing phenomena ) as mass psychosis. Think Jonestown.

Sure, Trump supporters are cool......unless you find yourself between the Capitol and them, or between them and Mike Pence. Then all bets are off, because its likely you'll be a victim of a human stampede.

Also, it seems they are winding themselves up for another episode. I see them fly the F-U flags already and screaming all kinds of nonsense.

It's always like that. Revolutions are not a radical group overthrowing a government, radicals unite an unhappy populous that has given up on rational compromise and change. Radicals take advantage of a government that has fallen out of touch with the people they govern.

It would help quite alot if more folks were willing protect themselves from criminals. All this consternation of people attacking the govt...

1- can you name the last time anyone tried to overthrow our govt by shooting it?
2- unless you're worried the 'extremists' might actually succeed, why not just let them revolt so the govt put them down already?
3- if you are worried the 'extremists' might beat or take over the govt, seems to me you would be eager to protect yourself from such a situation...

Both sides keep saying the other side is killing democracy. Democracy dies when people stop listening to each other. Everybody talks but nobody listens anymore.

Nah. The middle class could no longer govern itself by the late 1950's, and let a bunch of commies and deviants start pushing them around, is all; any country that can't even protect its school children from sicko deviant predators deserves to die a sudden death; there is nothing to save. Just sit back and enjoy the hilariously neurotic gimps like AOC eat their own and collapse the country into another North Korea, and probably even put handicapped black lesbian midget in power as a tribute to the Mad Midget running NK now, a major hero to the left and right wingers both.

Agreed. However there is also an increasingly wide gap between fundamental philosophies of 'good governance' that I think is more of contributory cause of the breakdown in discussion rather than a symptom of it. When the core values of two people differ widely enough, at a certain point it doesnt make sense for them to be in the same society that has the same laws. Either one or the other must be oppressed by some means, or there must be two different societies. We, as a nation, essentially are evolving socially in two different directions. That cant keep going forever.

...and since I refuse to be either oppressor or oppressee, Im hoping we manage to split somehow.

Excellent point. add to that......the reluctance to make compromises in order to achieve a goal.

Perhaps they are trying to protect themselves from criminals.....
like Trump and his supporters. Isn't that why the national guard is protecting the capitol?

Just letting them revolt as you say would probably get even more people killed or wounded.
Why do you want war so bad....always trying to convince everyone to arm themselves.
Not everyone should be carrying guns wherever they go.

They've already proved they are dangerous...and have already been labeled terrorists.
We should definitely be worried about their beliefs...doesn't make sense
to wait until they're wearing suicide vests to see them as a threat.

And it's also possible they had....and still have...inside help.
If there is a next one it might be more effective.

I haven't seen anything suggesting that possibility other than earlier reports saying someone saw her colleagues giving tours the day prior to the riot. Did anything ever come of that?

I absolutely expect a real attack to not be publicized or openly discussed online. I just hope they are prepared for whatever and whenever it happens.

The statement you asked about is a quote from the article.

And yes....... much of this ( beliefs , extreme or otherwise) depends on the lens one is looking through. The underlying basis of extremism varies with the groups involved.

The possibility (or probability) of "inside help" is being investigated now ( CNN reporting. )

    It is a valid concern.

and that is only the more dramatic form of violence/ terrorism. There are many other forms that this can happen.
Seems that plenty of folks are "worried" as the number of guns for "p[protection" in the country number higher than the population itself.
