I haven't heard of the guy before, but I looked it up and I didn't find anything. it appears that in the article you linked to, only 1700 mayans were killed. The 200k figure you're thinking of is the death toll for the civil war, id est not a genocide. I can defend Reagan's pragmatism if you want. I do in fact agree; a friendly rightist military junta is better than a hostile communist one. And when you don't have the need, will or ability to put in a real democratic regime.. why not?
