With being an advocate for the transgender community, it does have to be noted that the medical professionals once felt that shock therapy was effective and that homosexuality was a disorder, despite protests to the contrary. So that isn't exactly a great argument.
If indeed the child is receiving hormone treatments, instead of hormone blockers, it can be more damaging and harder to reverse (but not irreversible). Depending on when the attempt is made, if ever, to reverse the process (assuming no surgery), there can be detrimental effects from causing the body to go back and forth artificially.
