It is worth the reminder that President Franklin D. Roosevelt attempted to introduce a Second Bill of Rights, but did not live to implement it. This is interesting reading. Here are the high points. What do you think?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Bill_of_Rights

"The Second Bill of Rights was a list of rights proposed by Franklin D. Roosevelt, the then President of the United States, during his State of the Union Address on January 11, 1944. In his address Roosevelt suggested that the nation had come to recognize, and should now implement, a second "bill of rights". Roosevelt's argument was that the "political rights" guaranteed by the constitution and the Bill of Rights had "proved inadequate to assure us equality in the pursuit of happiness." Roosevelt's remedy was to declare an "economic bill of rights" which would guarantee:

    Employment, with a living wage,
Freedom from unfair competition and monopolies,
    Housing,
    Medical care,
    Education, and,
    Social security

Roosevelt stated that having these rights would guarantee American security, and that America's place in the world depended upon how far these and similar rights had been carried into practice."

It shows us how far the *********s and Republicans have pulled America off track. Perhaps the Democratic Party should introduce this as legislation.

More or less because it would have failed 2-3 decades ago and we would have discovered the idiocy of it all.

It might have to be updated if it were legislated and not just a guideline, but other than that, I like it.

And, you are running your keyboard. You never heard of the second Bill of Rights until today, and you can see how bringing it back at this time undermines everything ********* Repubs are trying to pull. FDR has been and is selected as the best president of the United States which basically leaves you in the dust!

This is an appropriate criticism of FDR's big plans.

Scandinavian Countries =! United States of America

Also the recession is due in large part because of Central Economic Planning and Militarism... I haven't heard of Sweden, Denmark, or Norway inflating their currency to prop up bad businesses yet so! :p

We can work with that as long as the wealthy pay for it. A 90% tax rate has worked well in the past.

    Bleed 'em.

In the 1960s the UK raised taxes so high, the wealthy left the country. They were back in a few years and willing to pay. They had finally realized what a privilege it was to be a UK citizen.

Who suggested at gunpoint? And 90% is too high I agree. 40-42% is more of a practical number.
