100 million masks were depleted without replacement-those respirators could be in use by first respondents, high risk individuals, and those working in hospitals.

Just now, Trump is speaking at his daily China flu presser-and he is saying steps are being taken to replenish the masks and hoarding will be made illegal.

I think your argument would work if this crisis happened right after Trump assumed office. The problem is this administration has had 3 years to replenish the supply.

 

No one thought this would happen(for better or worse.) And it wouldn't have happened if China didn't lie for two months straight.

Obama didn't have a major epidemic after H1N1. As any serious President, at the first sign of one, he would have made all the efforts to make sure everything was available before it hit us full force. Trump..... Well.... He was ready for the number of cases to start declining before they got to 20... just by .... him saying so!

 

I tend to disagree. I don't know who is responsible but it must be someone's job to anticipate these issues and prepare. From the ops post "A federally backed task force and a safety equipment organization both recommended to the Obama administration that the stockpile be replenished with the 100 million masks used after the H1N1 outbreak. Charles Johnson, president of the International Safety Equipment Association, said that advice was never heeded." Obviously this task force anticipated the need for more mask but no one listened. I am sure there could be excuses for lack of funding or whatever but the reason we elect these people is to make these preparations for us. I am no Obama fan so I have no problems blaming him for not replenishing the depleted supply at the same time this administration also had many years to replenish the supply and did nothing. The reason Trump was elected was to do things better than Obama not to continue the same mistakes.

 

US GDP for 2020 will be a negative number, putting Trump’s four year average equal to Obama’s and LESS than Carter’s four year average. Also less than Eisenhower, Nixon, Reagan, and Clinton. Trump ain’t special.

FEMA Is now supplying some states with PPE's which are well beyond their expiration dates,which probably means they have been sitting around somewhere in a warehouse rotting away while being desperately needed. They are OK for virus screening but unacceptable for operating rooms and ICU's.

Every single effort by Obama to get money for preparedness for the country was fought tooth and nail by Republicans, often for the most inane of reasons!

Obama had to fight to get repair of the USA, for health care, for jobs, for infrastructure.

So while Trump goves away 2 trillion to billionaires who frittered away their own personal wealth, not only do we get replacements for the masjs and respirators (which are out of date anyway!), Trump and the Republicans not only not builds up medical stocks, he cuts pandemic reparedness, the CDC, and other programs.

And then they plaim OBAMA! What a bunch of losers the Republicans have become!

 

Why didn't Trump replace them? He sure spent an awfully lot of time boasting about how he was undoing everything Obama did. Why didn't he fix that, too? How is it Obama's fault that Trump didn't solve this giant blunder in three+ years?

You're talking as if Trumps actions caused the economic collapse or he could have stopped it. Why are you doing that?

 

Obama faced an epidemic in 2009. H1N1 was deadlier than Covid 19. But Americans did not panic. They did not have to
stand in line to buy toilet paper and guns - because they had greater trust in the government and it's
ability to handle a health crisis.

Trump has spent the last three years undermining trust in government, health and scientific authorities and the press. The result is a panic that didn't have to happen. It DIDN'T happen during the H1N1 crisis. Trump is not responsible for the disease - but he IS responsible for the panicked response.

 

They didn’t panic because the media didn’t make everyone hysterical. Trumps response has been quite calm. So calm he was criticized for being too calm while the Democrats were saying millions were going to die, and defending China. What bizarre backwards world are you living in?
